Problem creating Bluray disc in VS 2020

Post by CliveM »

Hello - I upgraded from VS X9 to VS Ultimate 2020 a couple of months ago when the price dropped down. Been working ok, until I've just come to create a Bluray disc. Having two problems:

1. I created a rendered file as normal, in Share then AVC/H.264, to produce a rendered file as .M2t with Format: PAL HDMV; Video Type: H264, upper field first, 24 bit, 1920x1080 16:19, 25,000 frames/sec; Data Rate: Var bit rate, max of 19530; Sound: Dolby 2.0, 48,000 Hz and 384 kbps. If I play this rendered file, it's absolutely fine. So next, to create a disc, create a new VSP with nothing in the timeline, go to Share again and click on disc and then Bluray - Coral wanted another £5.99 to access this! Paid up, brought the rendered file in as normal - but when then play this, it plays at an increased speed, with high-pitch speech that sounds like the mice in a Disney cartoon! Have ensured that the settings are all the same, but no joy. If I repeat this stage in the old V9 product (which fortunately I still have on my pc), it's totally fine. Any ideas what's going on?

2. Secondly, I've been unable to add in chapters. So you click "Add/Edit Chapter" and it brings up another screen, so you can use the scroll bar to select where to place each chapter and click on "Add Chapter" at each point. Trouble is, I'm not getting the full Chapter Add screen to display, only a part of it. I've attached a screenshot to show the problem. I've tried fiddling around the edges to see if I can increase the size of the display to full size so I access all the controls, but can't find any way of doing this. Again, has anyone any ideas as to what's going on?

I'll now try to complete the project in VS X9, which I think I'll be able to do completely satisfactorily, but obviously, going forward I'd like to be able to use the new version of the product for a whole project and not have to revert back to the old version to complete a job. So if anyone has any advice, be most grateful. Many thanks, Clive

Clive
As you purchased the Bluray plugin using X9 you should have been able to use the Restore Purchases, allowing you to use Bluray with 2020
A little late now and did not break the bank.
X9 may be the better option as there are free BD Menu templates available from the Corel Guide, Do-More / Get – More, of course you may already have these extra menu templates.
Adds I believe 10 menu templates, unfortunately not available for 2020 unless we copy the files across from X9 to 2020

Attached is what I see when setting Chapter Points with the panel the same size as the main panel, although I think X9 will be the same.
I do not have an explanation to that size.
Nor do I know why the video plays at a faster than normal speed.

I can only suggest re-installing the program to see if that fixes things, use the stub to start the uninstall.
Although first you could try resetting the program by re-naming the 23.0 folder to 23.0_old
C:\Users\UserName\AppData\Roaming\Ulead Systems\Corel VideoStudio Pro (x64)\23.0

If re-doing the project in X9, you will have to start from the very beginning as the VS 2020 project file won't open in X9. VS 2020 projects will only work in VS 2020. There used to be the ability to go to File > Save As to save a project in the format of one of the three previous versions of VS, but this was dropped for unknown reasons from VS 2020. In any case, X9 is more than 3 versions behind VS 2020, so it wouldn't have worked anyway.

Firstly, abject apologies for my extreme dilatoriness in responding to Iata and Ken’s kind replies to my post of 28th January 2021. Having completed the project is X9 last year, I imagine I probably had good intentions at the time of following through on Iata’s suggestions – uhm and then probably forgot! Senility I imagine! Anyway, roll forward a year and of course, the problems have re-appeared – other jobs I did during 2021 were only saved onto portable drives, so first time since last January I’ve wanted to save onto a Bluray disc.
And exactly the same two problems as last year, that is, when you pop the rendered .m2t file into the bluray project, it insists on playing at high speed – don’t have this problem if select say a .mpg or .mp4 file etc, problem is only with the .m2t file. And the problem with not being able to add chapters also persists, as don’t get the full review screen attached to Iata’s response, only the cut-down offering shown in the attachment to my original post.
I’ve now (very belatedly) followed through on Iata’s suggestions of resetting the programme by re-naming the original 23.0 directory (no joy) and then going for full uninstallation of the programme, followed by full re-install from scratch – but alas, still get exactly the same two problems persisting.
My main pc is a 2020 Microsoft Surface Book 3, running Win 10, but for travelling, I also have a Microsoft Surface Go (great little machine actually), much smaller and less powerful than its big brother, but still a full-on pc running Win 10. The Go also has VS 2020 on it and tried the procedure on this machine, same results with both problems!
Happily, as last year, I’ve been able to complete the project using X9, still loaded on my main machine.
I don’t need the very latest VS updates, so normally I leave it for three/four years before upgrading to the latest Corel offering and then wait until the end of the year to get the upgrade for around twenty quid. But as this seems to be a persistent problem, I’ll probably upgrade at the end of this year to VS 2022 (or whatever it’ll be called), to hopefully avoid the same problems this time next year, or sooner if I need to create another BD in the meantime.
So, if you guys have any further ideas on what the heck might be going on here, that’d be great, otherwise, at the very least I thought you should be aware of these issues. Apologies again that it’s taken me a whole year to respond! Kind Regards, Clive

Clive,
Looks like following the renaming folder reset advice did not work for you. A complete uninstall to get rid of any remnants is probably needed. You can find the clean-up tool here: https://forum.corel.com/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=59847
Make sure you have your VS Serial Key and Blu-Ray plugin ready before installing.

Hi rwernyei - thanks for that. I did do a complete Uninstall this time, though admittedly didn't then run any clean-up to check for any residual remnants before doing a complete re-install from scratch. As per my post yesterday, when re-installed, the original two problems persisted. I can repeat the exercise and run your suggested clean-up before re-installing again, if you think this could be the cause of the problems and make all the difference? Thanks, Clive

Welcome back, If the problem is using the Surface Go, does that have a smaller resolution screen than the main pc.
A quick google seems to indicate a 10.5 inch screen, although there are a few versions...??

You may be best uninstalling Video Studio 2020 and installing to the main machine Microsoft Surface Book 3

Can you give more details of both machines, update your profile to include the main pc

Thanks Trevor. I use the recommended screen res of 3840 x 2160 on the Surface Book 3; the little Go uses a recommended screen res of 1800 x 1200. As per previous post, I get exactly the same two problems on both machines. Also, I uninstalled VS2020 on the main Surface Book 3 yesterday and then did a full re-install, but unfortunately both problems have persisted. I think I'm getting to the point of just accepting that this is one of those bizarre IT problems that visit us from time to time and can take forever to resolve. And especially as I was able to complete my project using X9, then I think I'm going to give up one these issues fairly soon and upgrade to Corel's latest offering toward the end of the year - and hope that works! Anyway, thanks again for your help, Kind Regards, Clive. PS - have updated computer details for my main pc, the SB3, in my profile.
