Hi
I have to admit that I had not thought of such a complex procedure as that from Chaz to run though the transitions OK. Well my attempts at doing the same thing resulted in VS crashing completely upon re-loading the libraries in 50% of my tries and then, no matter what I did – the problem was still there.
It’s all getting quite silly when I know I only have to add those faulty transitions without playing through them, namely just before ‘Sharing’. Just to prove how ‘Sad’ this is making me, yesterday afternoon I spent a few hours going through the available transitions to see which worked and didn’t. I gave up after 37 transitions checked. Out of those 14 were definitely faulty and in checking those, I reset and went through the test procedure again at least twice with each bad one. Note that once I went through a bad transition and my CPU was running 100%, the only real solution was to re-boot VS and the project. Here are my results to date:
Faulty: Turn Page, Accordion, Barn Door, Blinds, Face, Gate, Slide, Split Gate, Squeeze, Whirlpool, Center, Split, Sweep, Turn, Twist.
OK on my test: Crossfade, Flip, Flying Boards, Flying Cubes, Flying Flip, Flying Fold, Folding Box, Spin Door, Checkers, Diagonal, Spiral, Stagger, Wall, Quarter, Side, 3d Conf, 3d slice, Adorage, Arrows (both) , Bar

If the designers of the program or of those transitions were to read these results I am sure they would exclaim "oh yes that is where we coded *%$* into them as well". I think I am done with this now! Good luck.

Hi I was thinking, with these transitions giving me grief do they require more memory during execution ?? You would think they all are the same. I don't know. I am using a AMD motherboard and perhaps a AMD CPU maybe conflicting with combination of Intel & Nvidia. VS is dedicated to intel.. as I understand..
This little extra effort with resetting library may help smooth out the transitions/video clips when executed. Well anyways, maybe one day I will get a surprise in the VS upgrade. Hope VS designers/creators read these posts from VS dedicated users.. I won't switch to another program. I'm so used to VS 's platform and the price is right! ps.. I find interacting with VS users in this forum is more helpful than Corel Support. Corel Support seems to be very generic when they try and help solve issues. meaning they never can really help. well that's what I experienced...... cheers Chaz

Yes, good to know that this forum lets us share our thoughts and trials re Coral VS here. Only by reading your experiences Chaz, did I know that other people were going through the same head scratching as myself. Thanks for your input here and also to Trevor and Zaphodikus. Like you, I would wish this would be sorted by a suitable upgrade from Corel but unfortunately they do not seem interested in correcting the faults. That should tell us something!
I shall drop by again periodically to see if anybody else has come up with a definitive (simple) cure.

Cheers LQ

Just a quick note.. I have been doing a few video projects since last few post I made.. I am not having any issues at this point with freezing transitions ( all transitions) no freeze up on scrubber or VS altogether.
recap..When opening VS, first thing is reset library, start a project... before shutting down VS, export library. When starting up VS, first thing is reset library, then import library. This has been a great relief! and time savings. Works every time!
(This is all being said I'm using my added graphics card, which was when I was having these issues, not onboard graphics, which didn't have these issues). Compatibility issues? I know, doesn't make sense.....Anyways, just wanted to mention. till next post.. cheers!
thnx all

Hi Chaz. Just a couple of quick question to your workaround here. Are you starting a new project every time you open up VS? I edit big video sequences (60-120 mins) with many clips (all the same format) and so nearly always start up VS by opening my last edit. If you are doing like me -opening an edit -do you then reset your library BEFORE or AFTER you have your opened your project, ready for the next edit? The next question is therefore -do you export the library again at the end of that particular edit before closedown?

Cheers, LQ

Hello, LQ.. No, I usually continue a project, but sometimes I do short projects. When I start new, Launch VS, start by resetting library. Then begin project (of course, name it). When I had enough editing for the day and want to continue the next day, First thing, save project then exported my library to a folder I named ex:(VS Library) for all transitions for every project... all transitions seem to go to that folder only. I’m still trying to separate folders for each project. (I can’t get VS to launch library from separate project folders) don’t know why but still working on it. Maybe it doesn’t matter, one folder is fine. Ok, also I create a folder in separate drive. (I just chose that as a preference).then close VS.
Next day I open that project to continue, then reset library, then import my library from (VS Library) I saved from yesterday. This will bring back the saved library transitions I chose for that project and will bring all transitions saved in favorites for further projects. (Takes few seconds to re-populate) then everything works smoothly as I continue project!! No freezing VS, scrubber, jittering or crashing..(For me anyways). apposed to having this NOT resetting library prior.
What I have found: This process of exporting, resetting and importing only worked on my PC computer consisting of AMD processor, separate graphics card and drives etc. (As my portfolio)…(Being this is what I was having conflict issues with as per past posts I submitted.)
When using VS studio on my laptop consisting intel processor, internal graphics, I had no issues with transitions, scrubber or freezing using VS. Again as I was informed, VS was intended for intel motherboard with onboard graphics design.
VS doesn’t shake hands well with added graphics card and my motherboard etc…( doesn’t know what to do with it, as I have been reading in other posts), so this added process of me going the extra step on my pc ( resetting, exporting ,importing etc. helps the shaking hands with VS easier for my VS to work properly.
I know, I don’t really understand what’s happening or even if I made any sense to my (get around issues fix)
So best of luck in your configuration attempts. Again this process works for me and maybe not for everyone.
Cheers and thanks for everyone’s input.

As VS started in its Ulead form in the 1900s, that's probably true as many software packages required Intel CPUs at the time. However times change and VS has supported AMD CPUs for years. In my experience, VS2021 runs fine on an AMD Ryzen 9 5950 with a NVIDIA 3080 without any need to reset the library. Happily, VS2021 does leverage the GPU whilst rendering.

These transitions with the default settings don't cause issues on my installation of VS2021, however, perhaps you're customizing them in some way that causes issues. If you could post a Smart Package that incorporates transitions causing problems on your system then others can investigate the issue.

Thanks for input, Sounds like we have similar computer components. I am not altering anything to cause these issues. I have these problems with other acquaintances computers as well with similar computer components. Even with a fresh re-install of VS I/we encounter this issue..So I don't know..something we are not the same somewhere. I have posted a lot trying to figure this out with many replies and follow ups. But again, this is an experience that I have been going through and my solution is the way I configured to solving my issue, If anyone is going through the same issues as I am, then hope this can get them by until something more concrete to help them out or me. I am learning more and more with VS users input. I will follow up. thanks again cheers,,
not sure how to upload a zip folder to a viewable source to share smart package.
Ps..Loved watching your many well made video travels, thanx for sharing..also nice to see how you took advantage of VS. cheers.

Hi tletter. Your comment here has made me think. First of all though, I must say that I have not intentionally customized the installation of these transitions in any way that I know off. I have now VS X10 on two computers and they both run exactly the same faults with the same transitions no matter what the type, size, or length of clip the transitions butt against. I had hoped that VS 2021 would cure the problem but it hasn't. Now after saying all that, I have to add two facts that may or maynot have a bearing on my particular case.
1) Both VS X10 and VS 2021 are upgrades from previous versions therefore some of the file paths and locations might not be the original defaults. (but I think they are!). Both versions still use the default C: user Document folder to store project, path, template, SmartProxy etc data.
2) Both my computers are in fact physically and electrically similar also having similar home-made set-ups (I worked with computers before my retirement), with one having a different Nvidia card and a slightly older but similar Intel I7 CPU. In both computers my main VS program is stored in a different drive to the Windows Drive C: ie they are in my 1& 2TB SSD Data drive 'F:'

Will look at getting a little example to zip up as a package and send you that. Where would I have to post it to?

Something more to think about now though. Cheers to both you and Chaz for these fine moments in my life!

If you were to create a project using the programs sample clips, apply the transitions
You should be able to attach the VSP to your post here.
You would have to first zip the VSP.
We can then open the VSP, all clips should re-link as they are all in the same location, assuming the guys here have installed to the default location on the C drive.

A Smart Package may be to large for this forum so a sharing app, Drop Box, One Drive would have to be used, then simply provide a share link

There are many file sharing sites that offer a free account, e.g. Dropbox (https://www.dropbox.com/basic). Once you upload your Smart Package to one of these sites, then you just have to post the link to this file on this forum.

Thanks for the latest help here to both Trevor and Tletter. I have managed to create a short 32sec video comprising of 4 mpg clips and three faulty transitions. When I load this project, no matter where I start the video - it drives my CPU to 100% before it gets to any of the transitions. As said before, I am watching the CPU usage via Windows 10 Task manager shoot to 100% but on my computer, this whole sequence runs apparently without hitch. On my bigger projects with full sized HD clips the whole things eventually grinds to a halt. So for anybody testing this, then please monitor your CPU usage. The accompanying 7MB zip file is a Corel VS Smart Package and all the clips are my own.
Cheers, LQ

Unfortunately or fortunately, your VSP opens fine in my VS2021 and doesn't remotely tickle the CPU or the GPU (see image).
erase.png
I've opened your VSP on two systems without any issues, one an AMD Ryzen 9 5950 with a NVIDIA 3080, and one an Intel i7-8086K with a NVIDIA 1070. There is no problem rendering your project, although the output is letterboxed.

Perhaps your VS2021 installation is corrupt so it might be worthwhile resetting your installation by renaming the folder 24.0 to 24.0_old in the "C:\Users\User Name\AppData\Roaming\Ulead Systems\Corel VideoStudio Pro (x64)\" folder and then restarting VS. If that doesn't work, then perhaps a removal and re-installation of VS is in order.

try this smart package I added to drop box. Add to video track then push play, let it play through then take scrubber and try to move right away. My scrubber freezes for about 10 seconds (everything freezes) then it will move but as soon as I run scrubber again passed video track it will freeze again.
But now I reset library and the freezing stops. I can move scrubber anytime with no issues. I have a PC tower with all the components as mentioned in my port folio computer description. Not a laptop with dedicated graphics board etc. ( which I don't have these problems on my laptop. intel processor. ( I hope this works for you to try. otherwise I need assistance on how to add zip file to this column. thanks for everyone help.
