Plug the iphone into the PC - as in, to copy files - usually with a usb connection of some sort, which makes it an external drive: and use explorer to locate and copy the video on the phone to a PC location. Then import to VS as needed.
I actually do it the other way - copy music files to the phone, so I can listen to the phone playing music on ear plugs during a walk.

OR -- if you do not have the necessary cables and connectors - what I do is to upload the video to a cloud (the Microsoft one is free for 1GB) then download it direct to my computer
I have my phone set to automatically upload any videos or photos I take to the cloud so that I have a permanent backup of those items in the event of anything happening to my phone - all can be easily downloaded again to computer or phone if required

Re: Short video from iphone Whats App to VS
I am in a project to co-ordinate remote school learning to pupils homes with the educational videos the teachers are using. This project is a video diary. The short Whats App video was my grandson’s response to a video on the app that the school uses.
For me, using a wired connection file explorer could not find the Whats App video in my Apple iphone 7.What I did was to select the video in Whats App, >Share>Mail>my email address. The video is the sent as an attachment (which works providing it is within your limit.)I then opened VS, downloaded the file and opened it and it appeared in my VS timeline.
