Video Studio 2020 Ultimate cloning help

Hello everyone this is my first post I just purchased VideoStudio 2020 Ultimate a few weeks ago and have been scouring the internet for tutorials, and education. I came across a video that is on YouTube but also in the Corel tutorials about doing a cloning or twin short video. Its the one with a guy and his clone sitting at a table. The guy on his computer with a bottle next to him and his clone is across from him and asks for a sip. The video goes through a step by sten instruction on how to do it unfortunately it is an older version of VS with the Boris FX Graffiti effect where VS 2020 Ulimate hs Boris FX Studio Title and it appears his technique does not work. I've spent hours trying to figure it out but have not been successful. Does anybody know of a good tutorial similar to this using the latest software (Boris FX Sudio Title) or can someone help me through it. YouTube link below.

welcome to the forums

The tutorial shows using Boris Graffiti to create a "mask" to effectively wipe out the left had side of the overlay clip.
You should also be able to use Mask Creator to do that.
Mask Creator is available from the tool bar, 4th icon from the right.

Change the Mask type to Still Image

Hi thanks for your quick response.

So wiping out or masking the left side I understand, its the animated mask portion that I can't seem to do. If you notice in the video the "clone is picking up the bottle. Which means the bottle has to be on the left side for a portion of the vid and then on the right side. I couldn't figure out the process for doing that.

As a test
Add any image to the top track
Then add another image to the overlay track, with this clip selected open the Mask Creator
Using the Rectangle tool draw your shape
Viewing the timelines--what you draw will be visible, the rest of the image will be transparent

Return to the mask creator to modify the shape / selection using the brush.
You can modify the mask at any time

Oh, so if I edit the mask on a different frame in time the earlier mask will remain the same? If that's the case that is very easy. I appreciate you sticking with me to help. I'll give that a try when I get home from work.

If you select Still, top right of Create Mask that will cover all frames.

I want to make sure I understand what you are saying correctly. If I check "Still" and using that vid I posted as an example, I create a mask on frame 1 covering the left side of the image, that mask will remain throughout the entire vid. BUT, If I scrub to the portion of the vid where I now want the bottle not masked I can just erase the portion of the mask to expose the bottle and for the remaining portion of the vid the bottle will now be unmasked and, for the portion of the vid before I unmasked the bottle it will still be masked. Do I have that right?

Apologies, I was using 2019 mask creator, 2020 appears to have been updated and does not have the Still option
The mask creator will set the mask to all frames unless you choose to Detect Movement and I do not think you need that option
It should be good enough to mask close to the bottle for all frames.
I will view the YT video again to see how the bottle was picked up.
Ok had a look and the tutorial uses keyframes to adjust the mask to reveal the bottle and that is something 2020 cannot do.
I will have a play around to see if there is any other way to pickup the bottle.

I think I may have found a solution
Once I have cut the video into two removing the middle part I rendered each part using File Saved Trimmed Video, this created a new separate / duplicate video for each section, I repeated again for the left video, I found it easier working with these rather than the trimmed clips.

Now I have one right copy and one left copy

Right copy to overlay 1 (full screen)
Left copy to overlay 2 - Mask creator to draw the mask including the bottle.
Left copy to overlay 3 Mask creator to draw mask not including the bottle.
Now I fade out Left Copy after the bottle has been repositioned.

I used Customize Motion to the overlay 2 clip, using the transparency option we can fade out that clip after the bottle has been moved, the bottle will then show from the right hand clip.
Using Images was a little easier to work with I have used sample images to show the mask effect, attached as VSP, opens using 2020

I could do with a copy of the YouTube video to give this a better test, I guess i could get my camera running.
