OneDriveOld Folder

Post by yukoner2 »

I have an Acer TC-885. For some reason the "Documents" folder, when I look at properties, shows as being located at C:\Users\norm\OneDriveOld.
That being the case, PSP and VideoStudio both add their folders to that folder. Unfortunately, Windows Explorer cannot locate C:\Users\norm\OneDriveOld so backing it up automatically seems unlikely.
Any ideas what the OneDriveOld folder is and how to get rid of it?
As an aside, I turned off Microsoft's OneDrive as soon as I started the computer months ago.

Edit: Update. I found the PSP and VSP folders with Windows Explorer. The folder is labeled _OneDrive and the Corel products installed their folders in the "Documents" folder there instead of in the usual "Documents" folder

Yes there are two documents folders one within the OneDrive folders and one via This PC which is used by default by most if not all programs that are installed on our PC’s
If the one Drive folder / Documents is being used then something has gone wrong or we have allocated that folder.
I do use One Drive but only for my personal folders, I have removed the documents / pictures folder just so I don’t get confused.

If you have installed Video Studio to the default locating it should be installed here C:\Program Files\Corel
In addition the working folder folders should be here
C:\Users\Trevor\Documents\Corel VideoStudio Pro
Notice this is C:\Users\Trevor\Documents and not the One Drive folder.

Launch Video Studio and access Settings – Preferences ( F6) – General Tab view the location of the two working folders, where is that folder?

Post updated
If Video Studio and Paint Shop Pro have installed to use the One Drive folders then I would think the only fix is to reinstall the programs making sure the default installation folders are used.

Just a small addition.

PSP should default to whatever %USERPROFILE%/Documents points to when installing. I would first open file explorer and typing that into the address bar to see where it brings you.

You can manually change the location of the PSP's resource folder if you're up for editing the Registry.

The registry location for PSP2020 is - Computer\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Corel\PaintShop Pro\X12

The key is "DefaultWrite" - the value should be - C:\Users\YOURUSERNAME\Documents\Corel PaintShop Pro\2020\

yukoner2, If by any chance you did change the default location of the Documents folder which can easily be done via the Documents folders Preferences then it can be changed back by choosing restore defaults. if you open This PC to view the folder structures, right click Documents for preferences – Location tab should show the actual location of the documents folder.

Matthew, just to fill you in on details, yukoner2 has recently changed his C drive of 128gb to a SSD 500Gb Drive.

I think some changes may have been made to the old 128 C Drive that are no longer required now it is using a 500gb SSD
Its a pc cleanup rather than a PSP or VS issue, I think.

I'm busily researching the things you folks mentioned earlier in this thread. Just as a response to this comment though, the issue with the OneDriveOld folder began right from the firs time I installed any programs. It looks like most, if not all, are using that folder.

I'm going to reinstall and double check where the default is. My recollection is that one of the options was greyed out when I installed previously.

It appears that the registry Key is the issue
I uninstalled both PSP and VSP, then ran CCleaner to clean up the registry. At that time the PSP registry entries were removed.
Then when I installed PSP again, it wrote to the OneDriveOld folder again.
Oh, well, everything is working so I think enough of all our time has been spent on this so I should get back to creating instead of trying to deal with what seems do be an OCD thing for me. LOL
Thanks for your time guys. Much appreciated.

When I try to "restore default" I get an error message that there's a folder in the same location that can't be redirected. See attached screenshot.
Perhaps I need to uninstall all my programs that are using the folder, "Restore Default" and then reinstall?

The "documents " folder is in the correct location which is why you cannot restore it”, there is no reason to change that.

The mystery is as you said "Then when I installed PSP again, it wrote to the OneDriveOld folder again"
So why is OneDriveOld being used.
When you installed PSP did you change the installation folder or use the default location which should be here C:\Program Files\Corel

Totally confused as to what is going on.
Use the programs to see if you are having any other issues, or are they working correctly.

Prior to clicking on "Restore Default" the indicated location was incorrect, I believe.

At any rate, I've decided that I'll, hopefully, be able to pick up a larger NVMe in the New Year and I'll do a clean install of Windows.
Being a senior on a fixed income kinda slows my purchasing power down. LOL
Thanks again for your assistance with this.
