no video was captured ... may be no device selected

Post by rsnowman »

I am getting the message No video was captured. Please check if there is any input signal. There may be no device selected.

The camera is recognized by Device Manager as Canon DV Camcorder.
It a Canon Optura 50.

The driver it is using looks to be ks.sys.

The 'source' field of the Capture panel lists only Microsoft DV Camera and VCR. I doubt it's an issue but for the record my format selected is AVI. After poking around on this board I tried re-registering the AVI codec. Long shot, went ok, made no difference.

I can capture using Windows Movie Maker, but I am trying the demo of Video Studio. I would like it to work.

Any ideas?

Have you tried it with the 'Microsoft DV camera selected?

How is your camera connected to the computer? Is it switched on in PLAY position? (Has to be via Firewire, not the USB port/cable which I think is USB 1 on your camera and not suitable for high quality digital transfer.)

As for the AVI setting, can you select 'DV' (which is the format you should be using -- a compressed format of AVI developed by Microsoft to exactly emulate the quality of your DV tape in the camera)?

Hi Ken, thanks very much for your help.

Yes, the Microsoft DV camera is selected.

The camera is connected from the camera's DV out over firewire to the PC slot - a Star Tech firewire PC card. I'm on a laptop. This connection captures with Windows Movie Maker. The connection is ok.

The camera is on, in VCR mode, and recognized by windows. I've tried it with the tape running and with the tape stopped.

I can not select DV. I try, but it asserts AVI.
