Save As feature closes down PI program

Post by ahk123 »

Lately if I create something and click on 'Save As" or 'Save', the program shuts down. I can save something if I use Image Optimizer or sometimes when I use the CTL+SHFT+S, it works sometimes.
What happens is that the window will show up to choose where you want to save but then it disappears and PI closes down.
I have uninstalled and reinstalled.....I have cleaned out registry and also under advice have uninstalled PEX 8.5 and reinstalled that and still this happens. every once in a while it works......
Don't know what to do. Ulead support just suggests uninstalling and reinstalling.
Very frustrating after working on item then losing it when trying to save.
I am taking the PIRC Beginners Workshop and don't want to lose anymore projects.
I would appreciate any help anyone can give.
Thank you very much Annette

I'm using Windows XP Pro SP2, too.

My PC:
Intel Mobility Pentium 3 1.13G
ATi Mobility Radeon
ATi Catalyst driver v6.14.10.6467
512MB DDR SDRAM
Ulead PhotoImpact 10 with the latest patch (v10.0.0.1)
Ulead PhotoExplorer 8.5 also installed.

But I do not have your SAVE FILE problem in my PI.

Maybe you can try to update your display card driver from http://www.ati.com ?

I wish I can help, but sometimes it's difficult if I cannot check your PC.

No problems here. I'm hammering the program fairly hard and use SAVE AS the majority of the time I'm saving. I'm running under XP Pro SP2 though I think I'd have the same results under XP Home. Sorry I don't have anything of more consequence to add to help you.

I am the person who originally posted this thread and now no longer have the problem.
I really don't know what happened but I started just using the feature that is under the heading 'WEB' and scrolled down to "Item Optimizer" and saved it that way. After a while I tested the other way and it started working. So I have just chalked it up to a bug in the the new version of the program.
Hope this helps.....also I found if I used the "CTL + ALT + S key that the window for Save As would be activated.

I've been meaning to check if the bugs I found in PI XL still exist when going between Image Optimizer and File when saving PNG data. It would always toggle/change my FILTER option. Actually, Image Optimizer jpeg saving would also toggle my PNG filter option setting, I would notice the next time I went to SAVE AS PNG in the file menu.

The behavior of plain old Save would also be inconsistent - sometimes saving a filtered PNG, sometimes saving a much larger unfiltered one. That was annoying.

Hey thanks,
The image optimizer its partially solving the problem as long as I want save as JPG,GIF or PNG for other formats the problem is still there as the "CTL + ALT + S" key is also shutting down PI.

I have installed the soft in another PC and it works very well, I guess in my PC there is some incompatibility with some DLL but which one and how to find it? I can not reasonably remove all my installed software?
Is there any way to trace what is happening?
Thans to all for your help & suggestions

This is one that might require detailed technical support from Ulead, which they seem to do on a one-by-one basis, and not here, evidently...

But like so many other WINDOWS-oriented problems, perhaps an uninstall followed by a re-install might shake it loose. So that might be worth trying first.

Microsoft, tsk, tsk.

Finally solved but....

Well I finally solved my problem by......reinstalling Windows! :x Thanks Bill!

Well now at least PI it works fine, I guess something in the registers or in a dll was incopatible!

So long.
