I wonder it if anyone else has this problem. Occasionally unticking the Smart edge box and reticking will reset it.
If not I have to close down the program and relaunch if; then it will work as normal. When it leaps over it is usually the same number of pixels as I move down the brush over the edge.

Did it again today; and ticking or unticking the Smart edge box didn't make any difference; still jumped a number of pixels over the edge. Close down the program and relaunch it solved the problem for a while. Oh well something I'll have to live with I guess.

Did you switch to another tool in between? I mean working with Smart Edge, clicking on another tool, or making an action like panning or zooming, and revert to Smart Edge?

Hi Jean-Luc. Sorry for not replying earlier; I must have missed a notification.

Thanks for your reply. Yes I am switching between tools all the time which I assume everyone does. Zooming and then returning to the brush tool would make sense as when you are colouring it would leap over the line, the same number of pixels from the edge. This could be the answer; it thinks you are in a different place on the workspace. I will experiment when I get a moment spare and let you know later. This could account for the fact that it doesn't do it all the time.

Yes, we switch between tools but the switching may be the cause of the problem. It should not, but it is perhaps why it happens. It may also be random. If we could produce a list of precise steps that could show the defect on demand, it will be possible for Corel to correct it.

Result of test; Loaded star pic and coloured in red sections, changed tool and back again, coloured blue section. Zoomed out to a small star and coloured yellow section, keeping within the inner lines and it bled into the other sections. Zoomed in to larger star to show error. See screenshot.

No need to change a tool. Changing color is sufficient.

Update, second try worked as it should, then changing tool to Smudge and back caused the bleed. Bleed it commensurate with the size of the brush, larger brush more bleed.
Found a workaround; if you do a Save it returns to normal working.
