How to mass change text characteristics

Post by jparnold »

Is it possible to do a mass change of all the different texts added to a project?
I started using a particular text color and particular shadow color and now I find that in some scenes the text does not stand out as much as I would like and as such I would like to change the text color and shadow color for ever different text in the project.

Is there a faster method than just selecting each one and changing it separately?

If not is there a fast method to locate the NEXT text in the project rather than just dragging the 'scrubber' along the timeline looking for each one?

Hi John
You can try Copy and Paste Attributes
That should set the text to use the same
Be careful as changing the font will change the text size and that will affect the alignment

Navigate the text clips, select the first clip then hit your keyboard arrow keys right and left

Thanks Trevor,

Yes I know about copy and paste attributes but I was hoping for a much faster method than that.
For example if I need to reduce the volume of every video clip in the project I selected (left mouse button) the first clip, and then hold the CTRL key down and select the last video clip (so that all clips are selected) and then change the volume and it does it to every clip selected. I don't seem to be able to do that with 'titles'. Well I can select all titles but then the panel for setting color, font etc is greyed out. Maybe that has been fixed with later versions? Can you check please.
I note that I can select all 'clips' on a music track and be able to mass change certain 'attributes' (eg volume) them so why not titles? Annoying.
Regards John

John
1/ select the first clip and change the colours ect.
2 / right click that clip on the timeline for Copy attributes
3 / now Shift click the last title clip to select all, i think its shift and not Ctrl
4 / right cick the selection for Paste attributes

The settings from clop one will be applied to all clips

Thanks Trevor,

Thinking about it, what you described is totally logical.

There is only one problem (if I select the first clip) and that is it copies where the text is placed as well and so all the other texts end up in the incorrect place. That of course can be overcome by selecting the second (and last) clip although as the second clip is shorter than some others they also end up slightly offset.
Oh well you can't win them all.

I will also use that logic to apply audio filters to all my voice overs - I add pitch change (I think my voice doesn't sound deep enough), normalise (to ensure each clip is the same volume - well that's what I though it was for), and Amplify (to reduce the volume a little).

Thanks again
John

Hi John
When you come to paste there is an option to Paste Optional Attributes, deselect position and the colour should change with out changing the position.
If you change the font or text size than that will alter the position a little as different fonts create different size text

There may be a bit of trial and error using the Paste Optional Attributes

Trevor
You are a "fountain of wisdom". Now I know what Paste Optional Attributes does.
