Hi
I have issues with VS 2020 on my new computer. Especially, when working with Mask Creator, it crashes very frequently. Even when I just try to move the mask using the Move tool. Besides, from time to time it stops responding when I press Play.
When I changed computer recently, I was using VS X10. But on the new computer it would crash very frequently when pressing Play. Tech support was not helpful, so I decided to upgrade to 2020 instead of wasting time with tech support. It helped in a way, at least when pressing Play the issue dos not occur so frequently in VS 2020. But it still does. And with the Mask Creator it occurs too frequently.
I contacted tech support again but they seem to be totally incapable of helping.
Does anybody have similar issues? And maybe somebody could find some solution?
My new computer has an AMD CPU/GPU, it is the first computer with an AMD processor I have. I wonder, maybe VS has some issues with AMD? It would be good to hear from those who have similar issues what computers they use.
I've been using VS since years, since when it was Ulead and did not have any issues. Including VS X10, I did not have any issues with it until this new computer.

Maybe you are right but I still have the other computer. I've changed my laptop, the one listed on the profile is a desktop. The issue occurs on the laptop, not on the desktop.

As my profile to the right, I am using AMD and do not have a problem with the mask creator
2020 afaik does not fully support Hardware Acceleration, at least no options from Preferences - Performance
Try deselecting the Hardware Acceleration options to see if that improves things although my settings are selected

I had not used the mask creator function in the past. After I upgraded to VS 2020 I noticed the icon and was curious, so I tried making something very simple and experienced "silent crashes". It wasn't a priority for me, so after a few attempts I just assumed it was a bug and haven't tried it since.

It looks like lata's suggestion helped. I disabled hardware acceleration. Then I tried to work with various masks. In the end I chose one withe quite a complicated shape and chose motion detection with "adjust to next frame". VS did not crash but after working with this mask for quite some time it stopped responding. But then I saw in Task Manager that RAM was almost full and then the computer stopped responding completely. So, it seems that just RAM was insufficient but VS itself did not crash. With hardware acceleration enabled it would crash much sooner.
It's strange though that hardware acceleration is not fully supported. In that sense 2020 is rather a downgrade than upgrade then.
I did not yet check if disabling hardware acceleration solves the issue of VS stopping responding when pressing Play. That issue does not happen very frequently, so I will need some time to check it out. I will post an update here when I do it.
