I expect pop ups from Malware, Shareware & Freeware

Post by Klepper »

Image

When I haven't ran the program, I expect pop-ups advertisements from:

1. Malware

2. Shareware.

3. Freeware

NOT from programs I paid hundreds of dollars for.

What is this rubbish?

Maybe annoying but at $24.99 not a bad deal for the Ultimate version
Go to your Video Studio programs Help – Message Preferences
Do this for all programs you have installed
Then go to your Corel Account and Sign In, there is an option “Manage Your Communications Preferences”
https://www.corel.com/en/

By the way you can attach images to your post without using imgur.com
Attachment options at the bottom of your post, first select the Full Editor & Preview, then the Attachment tab

Open VS

-Help
-Message Preferences
-Change to 'Do NOT show me tray messages for this application'

Done.

Cute, but there is no such option:

It just shows the message again.

Hi
From VS 2019 I see this option.
2019 help messages.jpg
You do not say which version you are using, that could be the difference in what I see.
Can you update your profile to include your Corel program.
You are also showing running Windows 7 are those details correct.

If it is really annoying you can disable Video Studio from accessing the internet via your Firewall, that will also affect the details on the Welcome screen as those do need an internet connection.

As an aside --- Your images are on the large size --- You can attach images to your post without using imgur.com
Attachment options at the bottom of your post, first select the Full Editor & Preview, then the Attachment tab.
Yes I realise it is a forum issue in allowing larger images

Is that relevant? In what versions of paid programs should ads be allowed to pop up and disrupt work or video watching?

Irrelevant.

Incorrect, W10 x64 - Version 20H2

Or I could move to an island and never use a computer again. I'd never see the ad there either.

I don't get quite as annoyed as you by the ads, possibly because I have been receiving them for a long time. I also get them from a couple of other companies whose software I use, though honestly not nearly as many as I get from Corel. I have tried the various methods suggested with limited or erratic success. One thing I regularly do though, at least once a week is to go to AppData > Roaming > Corel > Messages, and delete everything there. And also in Program Data > Corel > Messages where I do the same, though those don't seem to fill up as rapidly as the ones in AppData. In fact, regardless I what I do, those folders seem to fill whenever I open VS or PaintShop Pro! Sigh!

It's relevant because the method to turn off the nagging changed in one of the newer versions and the screenshot you shared shows you have an older version that used Corel Guide.

1. latest versions allow you to control it in the Help->Message Preferences menu
2. older versions had a separate app (Corel Update Helper, aka CUH.exe) that ran either through task manager or startup folder. You can prevent it from loading by deleting the shortcut in the startup folder or right-click and disable within the Task Manager -> Startup tab or right-click and disable the task(s) in Control Panel -> Administrative Tools -> Task Scheduler. It will be in a different place depending on your version of VideoStudio.

Incorrect. I have the latest WordPerfect and when I go into Message Settings> and I do see:

Image

And when I uncheck them, and click OKAY, and either go back into Message Settings again, or exit the program, both the boxes are checked again. And Either way I get ads yet again. For Paintshop too, I don't even have that one.

This is not a "just me" problem:
