"Project" Preview Is Darker Than "Clip"

Post by michaeltee »

Hello,

I recently removed the demo version of VS9 and installed the CD-ROM version. I then installed the new update Patch.

I'm noticing that when I preview a clip, the brightness looks as it should, however when I preview the entire project the images are significantly darker.

Does anyone know what might be causing this? Any comments/suggestions appreciated :-)

Thanks!

You're looking at different gamma settings for your desktop and hardware overlay. I don't use ATI video cards, but if you rummage around the Display applet in the Control Panel, you can probably find a place to change the setting.

Thanks for the reply! Apparently I can't adjust the overlay properties unless I install the ATI Control Center and MS Net Framework. On the standard ATI control panel the overlay settings are grayed out.

In any case, I discovered the project preview brightness matches the clip preview brightness if I set VS9's "instant playback target" (under the "General" tab) to "dual head device" rather than "preview window" (instant playback mode). In this case, the image is darker only when idol (when paused for example) but normal during project AND clip preview. If I switch to rendered preview, the project AND clip remain at normal brightness regardless of "instant playback target" mode.

Maybe this is normal (?). I just don't recall it being the case with the trial version.

My system's showing the opposite difference: while Editing, 'clip' usually is darker than 'project' ... but not always.

Also, I can't find a "General" tab with the options you mentioned. Is that 'General' tab available when the "Capture / Edit / Effect /Overlay / Title / Audio / Share" tabs are on the screen?

The General tab is the first screen which appears when you click on File > Preferences. The 'File' button is in top left of the VS 9 screen.
