assoc./win/ with picutue files.

Post by brucefl »

I recently installed PI10 , had 7.0 which I uninstalled afterwards. I want PI to assoc. witth .jpgs. bmps. I go to preferences, and check them, but when I restart and double click on a file in windows, they won't open in PI.
I tried right clicking, then open with, but pi10 isn't there. I then click on open with choose program, then select the program from the list, but PI 10 still is not there. I then click the browse. go to the ulead folder, click and open (or double click) iedit.exe, but it still doesn't go in the choos program to open with dialog box ( I use windows xp)
I have also tried tools and folder options, but it still won't. I have 5, if I try the right click there are usually 7 in there, programs in the recommended programs to open with, none of which is PI 10? If I go to tool.

From Windows' Help and Support Center:

To change the program that opens a file
1. Open My Documents.

If the file you want is not located in My Documents or its subfolders, use Search to find it. To open Search, click Start, and then click Search.

2. Right-click the file you want to open in a different program, and then click Properties.

3. On the General tab, click Change.

4. Click the name of the program in which you want the file to open.

Notes

* To open My Documents, click Start, and then click My Documents.

* This change affects all files that have the same file name extension as the file you selected. For example, if you change the program that opens a .jpg file, all .jpg files will open in this program.

* You can also change the program that opens a file by right-clicking the file, clicking Open With, and then clicking the program name. If the program you want is not displayed, click Browse.

hi,
I thought I said that, though I may have not explained it clearly. Generally there are a few ways to change file associations in windows, I have tried all 3 routes I know of. Right clicking going throught hat way. Going to folder options under tools, that way, and preferences in PI 10.
When I find the iedit.exe to associate with the pictures, it will not and does not appear in that dialog box to "open with"

PhotoImpact will not appear with the default applications to choose from so you have to click Browse as the instruction suggests.

PhotoImpact is usually located in this folder:
C:\Program Files\Ulead Systems\Ulead PhotoImpact 10

Choose it from there...

As stated previously, I go to the picture, right click on it. Open with/Choose Program, click "select the program from a list" click ok.
When that dialog box opens up, I click always use the selected program to open this kind of file. I then Click browse.
I go to ulead systems/photoimpact 10/ I find the IEDIT.EXE and click open,, But, it will not appear in that dialog box after I click the open?
I am assuming as other versions prior PI 10, uses iedit.exe to open programs?
I can try the assoc. in the 2 or 3 ways to get to it, it will not let me put PI 10 in the dialog box to associate with .bmp, .jpgs., .tif.

If "PhotoImpact" still does not appear on the "Recommended/Other Programs" list, then this is already a problem with your operating system.

reinstall PI 10 seems to work

Post by brucefl »

Same thing tech support told me, but opted to try another option than playing around or renstalling windows.
hi

A possible note if someone else has this problem:
Put the PI 10 disc back in and pick the middle option
which I think was reinstall. Then I was able to click the browse
and do the assocation. Seems to work so far.
have a good day and wk end
