no File -> Import menu

Post by tcloud »

I recently purchased PSP Pro 2021 Ultimate and now I'd like to import from my scanners. I have no problem with Acrobat, Photoshop, Irfanview, etc. importing from the scanners.
Yes, I have searched and read 'till I'm blue in the face. There is no "Import" or "Twain" listed in my File menu -- not for either 32 bit or 64 bit versions.
Both scanners are connected via USB, and I've tried turning on one and then the other to no avail:
  • Epson Workforce WF-4630 all-in-one and
  • Epson V600 dedicated scanner
My PSP versions are:
Corel PaintShop Pro 23.0.0.143 (32 bit)
Corel PaintShop Pro 23.0.0.143 x64

Welcome to the forum!

I would originally have suggested you might be in the Essentials workspace, rather than the Complete one for PSP. However, on opening my own PSP 2021 and changing to Essentials, my File menu still has Import and Export directly below HDR. Indeed there is a further section below that too for Script and Batch processes. So something has obviously gone wrong.

First off, I'd suggest you reset the program. You do this by closing it, then hold down the Shift key when you press the desktop PSP icon to reopen it. You will be asked if you want to reset. Make sure you save any customized workspace you might have made as it will be lost in the reset otherwise.

Let us know if that restores Import and Export. The TWAIN settings are a subset of Import, of course. Mind you, even though I have a scanner which should theoretically work with TWAIN in the 64 bit version, it does not. But I find, when using the 64 bit version of PSP, that Import > From scanner or camera works just as well. Your alternative, if you really want to use TWAIN would be to do so in PSP 32 bit. You can of course then open the scanned file in PSP 64 bit if you need some of the x64 features.

Another option, to just reset the menu and nothing else, if you want

View -> Customize
Click on the Menu tab
Click the "Reset" button under the "Application Frame Menus" section.
