Confusion VS2018 - Project Setting and Share Settings
I am shooting a video in 4k. When I go to project settings, there is no 4k option available. When I go to share the video I can render it out in 4k. I am confused, isn't having the project settings at HD going degrade my 4k video?

Re: Confusion VS2018 - Project Setting and Share Settings
There are no options in settings/project properties for a 4K video clip, but there ARE settings in Share/MPEG 4 output (the render result) for that, 2 ways:
- When you import the clips to the TL, make sure that a 4K clip is the 1st clip inserted. Tick yes to to the message make the project properties the same as 1st clip: that should also adjust the displayed properties of the project at the top RH corner of the UI. When ready to render, open Share, and tick the box adjacent to the computer icon, select 'same as first clip' option from the list.
- in the share page, select MPEG-4, and from the drop down listbox, scroll down the 4k resolution setting, which is the last in the many options.
Choose a location folder for the rendered file, and click on the start button to get it going. Because it's 4k, the process will take some time.

Re: Confusion VS2018 - Project Setting and Share Settings
Hi David, thanks so much for the detailed reply. The problem is that when I drag the first 4k clip into the timeline, it does not ask the question re properties matching 1st clip.

There is a check box in settings/preferences/general tab, project section, for the show message item. Make sure it is ticked. if not, tick it. And you may then have to re-do that part of the project. it only asks that question once.

I didn't think that question came up for 4K in VS 2018... But maybe it did...

Re: Confusion VS2018 - Project Setting and Share Settings
Hi Guys
Using VS 2020 there are options to set 4K 3840 x 2160 these are available from Online option
MPEG-4 Files
24 bits, 3840 x 2160, 25 fps
Frame-based
H.264 High Profile Video: 40000 Kbps, 16:9
44100 Hz, 16 Bit, Stereo
MPEG AAC Audio: 192 Kbps
Of course the program cannot possibly provide all options as the list is endless
We have the option to create our own template by hitting the New, this will allow us to set 4K sizes for many of the Project Formats, Mobile, Online, Avchd, Bluray.
The best option is to let Show Messages to match our video files properties
Where that does not work then a manual approach to create our own template can be used.
It is best to at least match the frame rate and resolution, if this does not work then either the correct settings are being used or the properties are non-standard, if the video does not have an audio stream then the Show Messages may not work as Project Properties have to include audio.

With your video on the timeline, right click and choose properties, take a screen shot of that panel and attach to your post.
If you are using an older program then the above options may be limited
What version of Video Studio are you using, and can you update your profile so the details show to the right of your post.

Re: Confusion VS2018 - Project Setting and Share Settings
It was unchecked. I don't use VS very often and I thought the message wasn't coming up because 4k wasn't in the property list. Any how all good. Thanks David and others for your input.
