I have VideoStudio8 and have much reading manuals, website forum and head scratching I still can't get the audio to work from an imported home-movie DVD.
I think I might have got to the bottom of it - can someone confirm that audio only works with an extra plugin? if so where do I get it from? And why don't Ulead make it clear in the manual that the advertised import from DVD function doesn't work without spending more money?!
Does VS9 have this feature and would it be worth upgrading to?
Thanks

Digital Dolby Audio has never been supported by VS 8, unless you buy the AC3 plugin.
Which is a waste of money, your money would be better spent upgrading to VS 9 which does support Digital Dolby.
But first right click the clip in the timeline and select properties, if this indicates Digital Dolby.
There is a free AC3 filter that will allow you to hear the audio but not re-code.
Search Google.
And yes VS 9 is worth upgrading to.

Try this site offering some AC-3 decode freeware (if your movie is indeed in AC3):
http://www.digital-digest.com/dvd/downl ... .php?cid=5
Some of these tools can convert the AC-3 audio codec to WAV or some other audio format. But, just like what trevor said, if you plan on spending money anyways, you might as well upgrade to UVS9. You won't regret upgrading.

thanks for the guidance and advice. Just wish Ulead had put this information in the help/manual. Would have save me hours.
I'm now trying out Pinnacle Studio Plus 9, which IMHO seems to be easier to use and the online help answers my questions. Might spend the money on buying that rather than (the same price) upgrade to VS9.
Anyway, feel free to tell me what a fool I am.
FYI, mpeg encoding from DV in Pinnacle does appear to be still compatible with VS8, but not the other way around.

Hi Deputy
I cannot advise you not to go the Pinnacle way, as I have never used the program.
I did think about changing when I used VS 8 with all its problems. Less said.
As for Ulead advertising the fact that THERE product does not do something, like Digital Dolby, come on give them a break. You advertise what you have got not what you are lacking.
I now use VS 9 its great, best version of video studio I have used.
So before you decide give the VS 9 trial version a go.
Then shop round--try e-bay
All the Best Trevor
