Two software install problems after ugrading to CVS2020 Ultimate

Post by Royde »

After upgrading from CVS X10 to CVS 2020 I have been left with two software programme hitches that I have been unable to resolve despite many email conversations, as below, with Coral Support.

The two software problems are ;-
1 - In the edit "library" the "all media" files are named SP-V03.mp4 etc all have a relinking symbol to "Samples\Videos\VideoStudio X10, but i do not have X10 now so unable to relink them! HOW DO I transfer/install these library files to VideoStudio 2020?
2 - I have downloaded/installed the GET MORE free software, "Graphic Pack" and "video Template Bundles 1 and 2" and these have been placed as DESKTOP ICONS. HOW DO I install and use them in VideoStudio 2020.

Can anyone please come to my rescue

Hi Royde

Option 2 is easy, from the desktop folder each exe file needs running, double click each in turn to install the templates.
The graphics install approx 5 images to the library for each file.
For the time being I would not install those till you have fixed option 1

For option 1 that may need reinstalling the program, first I would try resetting the program by renaming the 23.0 folder
Some info here
http://www.lata.me.uk/corel/reset/reset.htm

You can also go to Settings - library manager - reset library

I am not on my pc so cannot give any more details at the moment

By the way, I believe the relink you are seeing is a corrupt library, so having the X10 files will not be of any use

It may seem cold comfort now, but saving the samples folders of all VS versions in a separate place is a great way to avoid losing these items when un-installs are in the wind. You may still get re-link messaging, but you can always re-link to the separately saved folders.

In so far as losing the sample details after un-installing X10, those items are typically passed on from one version to the next with only little change. So, review the contents of the samples folders for 2020 for content to see if the ones you use have been retained. And note that since 2019, there have been 2 samples folders - one for the program itself and one for the shared content, which will be a separate folder. In those 2 folders there are 2Gb of sample files most of which are the same as X10.

Why Corel would change to 2 samples folders like this is a separate discussion, and regardless of your views about it, good or bad, that changes nothing: they did it.

Sorry for the late reply I have been going through Iata's suggestions and researching, but sorry to to say without success.
1 - Have not proceeded with installing the Graphics Pack as would have to install each of the 30 individual files. Installed the Templates 1 Bonas Pack.
2 - I then reset the library which deleted all the unlinked All Media files so these are no longer available, how can i do a fresh install of the media video files? Next I reset the Programme by renaming the CVS 23.00 to 23.00 old, but nothing has changed still have the problems.
It seems to me that perhaps the programme is not fully installed ( installed size is 1.5GB ) in that I do not appear to have all the content that I had in all my previous versions of VideoStudio going back to CVS11 in 2007. For instance I don't have all the Share - Menu Templates I have 10 DVD and 7 AVCHD templates, whilst previously there was 19 and 12 respectively available. Perhaps a complete re-install is necessary.
What do you think?
Thank you for your assistance.

Hi Royde
Quite a few things going on here which may confuse the issue
As it happens I have just completed a re-install of 2020 so can compare what I see with your installation.
Good that you gave not installed the Graphics or Templates packs, that can be done later

Just jumping ahead to the DVD and Bluray Menus, yes they are limited in numbers, what you see are the default installed Menu Templates. Any additional ones you had with earlier versions were installed from the Do-More / Get More options, unfortunately no longer available for 2020 and I believe 2018 and 2019.
However we can copy the templates from X10 to the VS 2020 folder, so we should be able to see the extra menus.
OK
Your issue with re-links to files on X10 is as far as I know a library structure issue, If resetting the library has cured that then we can compare our files.
However if the problem persists then a Reset and ultimately a reinstallation of the program may be required.
So which particular library files are you concerned about.
As I say I have just installed 2020, so will boot that up to see what I have.

Regarding the extra DVD and Blu-ray menu templates I still have the CVS X10 installation/setup files in my downloads folder however I don't have the key so no hope there.
Unable to compare the X10 linked files as the library reset has just completely deleted all the X10 linked files so how can I reinstall these into the CVS2020 library, that is the SP.wmv .jpg and .mpa files.
I need the standard video files to add to my project, when adding titles, project templates and additional menu templates as I had available in X10.
I would be pleased to see how your CVS2020 installation size compares to my 1.5GB.
A bit if history - Upgraded X10 to 2020 in May but could not get the GET MORE free stuff as did not list these, Coral Support by direct access to my computer reinstalled 2020 with VidioStudeo_online.exe and this is when all these problems appeared. Leaning towards a reinstallation of 2020 as you have done, can you provide a link.
Thank you Iata.

Hi Royde
The 2020 program has undergone a big change to the library
All Media Sample shave been replaced by new ones
The names of the library folders have also changed at least for some ( just to confuse us)
The media library containing the SP-V01.mp4 is no longer used in 2020

However if you have those using an earlier version then you can copy the samples to a safe location, maybe another drive
For X10 they can be found here
C:\Program Files\Corel\Corel VideoStudio X10\Samples

Using 2020 you should not see any clips associated with X10, what you saw was a corrupt library
I’ll do a couple of screen shots from 2020 to show the new library

As for DVD menu templates, two files were available to increase the gallery, these are no longer available since X10.5, if when you used X10 then you may be able to download and install (DoMore_Menu_01.exe and DoMore_Menu_02.exe) I believe 01 was for DVD and 02 for Bluray, I do not know if these improved, added menus to Avchd?
C:\Program Files\Corel\Corel VideoStudio X10\Content\Menu Template\HD Basic\16x9\HD Basic for Bluray

and I think
C:\Program Files\Corel\Corel VideoStudio X10\Content\Menu Template\16x9 for DVD menus.
If you locate this folder the default templates start with 07_ if you see any that start with 09_ then those are the additional menu templates from Get More / Do More
The folder structures are a little confusing to understand

Thank you very much for all that information Iata. Wow what changes have been made, must agree not to the good it seems as most of little use - very disappointing.
I will bite the bullet and just soldier on. I do not have any X10 files at all now on my laptop, but just realised that they may be still on my Windows 8 PC.
My library looks the same as the screen shots so I'll leave you in piece now.
I shall reset the library again to loose site of the X10 linked files since they are no longer available for 2020.

If you are still seeing links to X10 then I think you should do a Re-Installation of the program
We do nave access to a cleanup tool, however it does cause problems to other Video Studio installations so not readily available to the public ( Corels decision)
But as you only have 2020 installed then the cleanup tool may be worth a try

First,
Altho the presentation of the samples is different in VS2020, if you look at the details - Trevor's screenshots above - most of the individual items shown in thumbnails are the same as previous years. For example, in the backgrounds image he shows: the solid colour lite blue was previously shown in objects/colours but is now in backgrounds. The item CP-a04 was previously shown on objects/colour patterns but is now in backgrounds. Etc. And there are new items as well.

Second,
If your projects are giving you re-link messages for X10 sample items, before you go re-installing anything, save your x10 vsp as another name, then open it and try to find the item that is subject of re-link in the 2020 sample folders. Click on a B&W barred clip, select re-link, and the file name you want is in the re-link box title bar. Navigate to the 2020 samples folder (program or shared) having the details and find the clip you want: select, OK and the project file is updated. But note, once you have saved the vsp from 2020 changes or not, now it is a 2020 vsp. You may find it more convenient to identify the clip names first and use windows explorer to search thru the samples folders of the main program tree or the shared content tree to find an item before using the re-link nav panel.
