VideoStudio 2019 crashing on random editting

Post by RenerJan »

Good evening,

I have an issue with Corel VideoStudio 2019 version: 22.3.0.436 (64bit -version) when I try to edit a video or try to compose a longer video sequence then somehow program just crash, without any message, error or warning, just close.
I have tried also to turn on Event Viewer on Windows 10, and here is a log that I get:

Code: Select all

Faulting application name: vstudio.exe, version: 22.3.0.436, time stamp: 0x5cdcbec4

Welcome to the forum!

We'll need a bit more information from you, though, if anyone can offer suggestions. The faulting module shows as being related to the mpeg codec, and I assume the codec accepting mpegs into the project. So can you tell us something about the video format you are using. What are the properties -- for that, right click one of the clips in the timeline and select Properties, then copy them here or take a screen shot of the Properties box and upload it here as an Attachment. It might also be helpful if you told us where the video came from e.g. a smartphone, or camcorder? And what are you wanting to produce: a video with the same or different properties?

Well, to start, you need to convert your videos to change the audio format as Dolby Digital is no longer supported by VS

For Win 10, VS does still support 2 channel stereo Dolby, but not 5.1. It is completely gone for Win 7. I am also not sure it has gone for VS 2019, though it has for VS 2020.

That being said, the properties given above look absolutely normal to me. I note, though, that they are .mts files. Trevor/lata is our expert on those so hopefully he might chip in here on that...

<Update> I regularly use MTS clips w/o issue - perhaps your clips come from a smartphone. Hence as a test, try converting some MTS clips to MP4 and then let VS match the clip properties and see if the problem persists.

His properties above show a constant frame rate of 50 fps which is standard for PAL. So I am not sure converting them would achieve anything. I also thought mts files were fine. But I was going to wait for lata's comments on that...

Also one note I have noticed. When I try to create DVD file from VS2019 at exactly 7% program crashes... I tried even to copy settings from older VS...

Hi RenerJan
The properties to me look bog standard I assume direct copy and paste from a camcorder SD card as the extension is MTS
Like tletter I regularly edit MTS files without issue, and just completed a few test renders without problems using VS 2020
My camcorder would have used Surround Sound with a 50fps video, the properties would normally show as “Attributes 48,000 Hz, 5.1 Channels”
For 2019 and 2020 only “Attributes 48,000 Hz” show as the program no longer supports Surround Sound.
The programs can read Digital Dolby but can only encode to Stereo not Surround Sound. (Windows 10 only)
Your details from VLC do confirm Digital Dolby using Stereo, even so bog standard and I would not expect any problems

OK
When you first add the video to the timelines you should receive a message to match the properties, yes to that, did you see that message?
When you used Share what did you select as your render option
Does the render fail every time.
At the top left is the option for Same as Project Settings, tick the box to activate then change to Same as First Clip, assuming the MTS is the first clip.
Render properties should show the same as the video properties.
Does that render without errors.

If the render to DVD consistently crashes at 7%, then look at your project file at 7% - something at that point is causing an issue.
Start with the project
- in Edit mode/project preview, does it play correctly, especially at that point?
In share mode
- see the queries about render configuration
- if it crashed at 7% screenshot the share page when the crash occurs. Post here for review.
