VS2020 Multicam won't open.
Hi Ken,
Long time no post.
One thing that really annoys me is purchasing software that just will not work or requires further payment for additional software or hardware.
Replay media catcher was one where I spent close to 70 hours before requesting a refund.
Looks like Video Studio 2020 is another. Purchased this mainly to use for screen capture but MultiCam refuses to work.
Either via VS2020 or the desktop icon all I get is the cursor changing to an hour glass for about three or four seconds then nothing...
Any ideas?
I had just upgraded to a new PC and Windows 10. Worst decision I have ever made. From Microsoft wanting to know what I had for breakfast to questionable software, I'm not wasting too much time on this one.
Corel - VideoStudio Pro version 23.3.0.646 (64-bit)
Windows 10 Home (x64) Version 1909 (build 18363.1082)
Board: Gigabyte Technology Co., Ltd. B365M HD3
2.90 gigahertz Intel Core i5-9400F
NVIDIA GeForce GT 710 [Display adapter]
BenQ G2420HD [Monitor]
8138 Megabytes Usable Installed Memory
Cheers,
Ken Green

Re: VS2020 Multicam won't open.
Hi Ken
Sorry you are having problems, I do not know why your version of MCCL is not opening correctly
When we first launch MCCL it scans our pc checking that it is capable of capturing video, I don’t really know what benefit that brings.
This scan only occurs once for the first start.
Once the scan has completed for me maybe 10 seconds the capture windows open.
I don’t have a problem in running MCCL.
Can you try right clicking the desktop icon and running as Administrator, if that does not work I can only suggest trying a re-install Video Studio.
Unfortunately I don’t know what else to suggest.

Hi Trevor,
I tried your suggestion, no go I'm afraid. Slightly longer with the hour glass being on but that's it.
I should point out I had already reinstalled Windows 10 and the trial version of VS2020 twice trying to get MCCL working.
I only purchased VS2020 on the off chance that Corel had removed MCCL from the trial version. No such luck...
Thanks for the quick response.

Re: VS2020 Multicam won't open.
Hi
When you purchased the full version, did you uninstall the trial, then downloaded the full version to install, or were you able to activate the trial.
I would suggest that you uninstall Video Studio, then download the program again to get the latest installation files.

Re: VS2020 Multicam won't open.
Hi again Trevor,
The trial was uninstalled via "add or remove programs".
Every mention of Corel & Videostudio was deleted from drive C: and the registry. I always create a restore point before installing anything or make "adjustments".
The VS version I have now was downloaded directly from Corel after payment. Serial number was included on receipt and according to Corel was the specific serial for the copy I downloaded.
cheers,
Ken

Re: VS2020 Multicam won't open.
Hi again Trevor,
Well, three forward, four back.
Thought I'd update my display adaptor driver, a GT 710.
It got to the compatibility check and gave "This graphics driver could not find compatible graphics hardware".
Of course my first thought was maybe the GT 710 was playing up but no, I fitted another GT 710 I had in my Win 7 PC but same result. After much searching as best I could tell there was no mention of the GT 710 in any of the display INI files. Probably why it couldn't find any hardware.
I spent all Sunday chasing fixes and there were many but very complicated and out of my range of expertise.
I downloaded the very latest NVIDIA driver v.456.55 (27.21.14.5655 - 24/09/2020). It installed no problems. Then another attempt at installing an earlier version I had tried previously gave the "This graphics driver could not find compatible graphics hardware" error.
My guess is that this error is only related to driver installations and not an indication the display hardware or software is playing up.
Anyway I installed three or four screen capture software and all worked fine. Multicam still no go.
Time for a refund and one hell of a clean up of the PC
cheers,
Ken

Re: VS2020 Multicam won't open.
Hi Ken
I have been exploring at my MCCL installation files.
It does not appear that MCCL is not installed as a program in the sense of the word, that is it does not show in Program and Features
The MCCL folder is here-- C:\Program Files\Corel\MultiCam Capture Lite
I am unsure if uninstalling Video Studio actually removes that folder, if not and should that be corrupt then it may be worth while deleting this folder.
Then install Video Studio, Unfortunately I have tried installing MCCL but does not work, has to be installed with Video Studio.
I have tried in vane to stop my MCCL from running, I even moved the folder to another drive and it still booted up.
I am uploading the folder as a zip file to my one drive, once done I will get the share link to you, if you wish to try that folder.
Simply download and unzip to C:\Program Files\Corel
See if that works for you.

Re: VS2020 Multicam won't open.
Hi Trevor,
I had tried installing MCCL but got the same results as you, it didn't work.
I currently have an early VS X2 on my Win 7 PC and I am tempted... but it's late and I'm going to bed.
cheers,
Ken

PS
It's going to be interesting to see what outcome I get when I do a system restore to before the VS installation.

Re: VS2020 Multicam won't open.
It seems a little strange to me that you only see importance in the entire VS installation for the screen capture ability of MCCL. I suspect a lot of us -- and me in particular in this case -- see no importance in MCCL at all. I've continued to use my Ashampoo Snap for screen capture regardless of what's on offer within VS...

Re: VS2020 Multicam won't open.
Hi Ken,
Why a little strange?
One pays for an item and some is missing, just forget about it?
I already have 2 screen capture programs, each does its own job. I also have an earlier version of VS. With everything new now, just tidying up.
regards,
Ken Green

Re: VS2020 Multicam won't open.
Trevor,
For some reason a little better than my copy. Clicking on the desktop icon one still only gets a few seconds of hour glass then zip.
From within VS click on the capture button, VS fades instantly to the task bar and at least stays there now, didn't bounce back. Still no MCCL. Good try though.

Re: VS2020 Multicam won't open.
I've been using VS since version 7 -- and that's 7, not X7, so about 16 versions ago. I have continued to use it for video editing, and not the extra bell or whistle that was only added a couple of versions ago. I also ignore MyDVD which comes with the VS package...Ken Green wrote:Why a little strange?

Re: VS2020 Multicam won't open.
Just checked actual version of VS I have used for many years with Win 7, VS Pro X2. I had no trouble at all with 7 or two screen capture programs and VS X2.
I cannot recall exactly why I updated my PC, maybe I just thought it was time. Wrong move!
VS was updated to combine 3 programs into 1 and tidy up the desktop a bit, which didn't work out. I still have 2 programs plus VS2020 with attached bits that don't work.
A solution I'm putting some serious thought into is to buy some more bits for the new PC to permit installing Windows 7 which currently blue screens... Problems solved.
There are a number of reasons, primarily Microsoft taking over my PC, software that just won't work with Windows 10, restore points going missing and the hours I have spent trying to get it working to MY satisfaction, not Microsofts.
cheers,
Ken Green
