Imported MP4s Missing Audio Track

Post by revbilly666 »

I'm using Corel Videostudio X8 Ultimate version 18.0.0.181 64 bit

I'm importing 30 second MP4 videos from my Bushnell Trophy Cam trial camera. I don't get prompted to set project to match video when I import the first MP4. The audio track on the video is faint, but there is an audio track on the file I'm importing. Once imported, the file has no audio attributes. The video looks fine.

Any ideas?

Hello? Anyone there? Nobody responded to this the first time. I could sure use a little help.

The native audio on the clips I'm trying to import are mono, and have a bit rate of 712kbps and sample rate of 44.100kHz. When I import the MP4 file I get no prompt to sync settings like I would expect if the audio was non-standard.

How can I get these files in VideoStudio without putting them through a conversion?

Apparently you are the only one using Bushnell Trophy Cam trial camera in the forum.
How we can help without any small sample file?

A small sample video would be useful. I have gone right through the Manual for the Bushnell Trophy trial cam, and while it covers video formats, it simply never mentions audio formats. It would also be useful if you could download a small free program called MediaInfo which should provide lots of information on your video and its audio. You can get it at https://mediaarea.net/en/MediaInfo

(For some very strange reason, I type T-r-a-i-l [with a capital T] and when it comes out after pressing Submit, it is changed to "trial"!)

Sorry for the delay. I didn't get notification of these responses. I'll check settings.

Here's a link to a public folder with the MP4 file as it comes from the camera. I appreciate your help with this.

I can play that clip in my VS 2020 without porblems, including the audio. It is of course just insect noises but I would have expected that given the nature of the clip. The audio is said to be standard LPCM 44100 hz 16 bit mono.

When I play it in VS 2018, however, the audio comes out sounding a bit like either a machine gun or train. That is in Clip mode. In Project mode there is no audio. So clearly some significant difference between VS 2018 and VS 2020.

Thanks for the response. Any idea how to adjust settings to get these clips to import correctly? I can convert them into WMVs and they import, but I worry I'm losing video and/or audio quality when I do that. It also complicates a process I'll have to do many times.

I'm surprised that I don't get the dialog asking if I want to set project to match the first video. I guess VS doesn't recognize the audio mismatch. I suppose you're talking me into an upgrade, but I wish my current version could manage this.

I certainly get that message when I insert the clip into VS 2020 -- though I am not trying to talk you into switching!! As for conversion, there is no need to convert to WMVs. You could try the freeware Handbrake converter and convert to mp4 with very similar properties though perhaps changing to AAC audio which more normally goes with mp4 video. That should give you equal quality -- though I agree it is an unwelcome complication to think you have to do this with all your video.

I was using Freemake Video Converter. I tried MP4 to MP4 first, but the resulting video had a lot of digital noise at the beginning, so I tried WMV with better result.

Freemake is old and sketchy. I'll try Handbrake and see if it's better. Thanks for the tip.
