Re: Error message: The burner is busy with another application
Thanks...have always rendered project as MPEG2 & then burnt to multiple discs (including DVD-R & Blu-ray) to give to other family members/grandkids successfully but not so currently....a challenge to sort ! Only have five other projects to conquer !
If other users have same problem from previous posts & even same day...is there a need for a patch fix ?

You seem to be having issues with the conversion process
There are two options to burning a DVD Disc
1 / we can burn the disc directly from the project file, this will convert the project using a process called Convert Title, the resultant Mpeg2 video file being used by the program to burn the disc.
If there are any problems with the project then you may get errors during this conversion
2 / From the main program, open the project Share Mpeg2
This will convert the project to a mpeg2 video file, hopefully complete without errors.
The Mpeg2 is a compliant DVD file.
We now Start a new project to empty the timelines
Share Disc – DVD this opens the burner module, nothing added, empty timelines
Top left for Add Media – Add Video Files, browse for the video you created above
Create your Menu
From the last page choose to Create an Iso File
When the process starts it should start with Create Menu, there should be no Convert Title
This process should complete without error
Using VLC Media Player we can play the ISO to check quality and if ok burn the ISO to disc.
Video Studio, Image Burn, or windows 10 can do that as well as many other apps
Video Studio choose Tools burn from disc image, browse for your ISO file.
Does that cause the problem with burner being used by another app.

Re: Error message: The burner is busy with another application
Hello Trevor,
Thank you for helping us with the issue it is much appreciated.
I have turned off the Auto Play feature in settings, devices. This seems to have helped remove the pop-up window that would occur when inserting a disc. The 'How do you want to use this disc' window does not pop up when inserting a disc. However, I am still unable to solve the problem of 'The Burner is busy with another application'.
To create a DVD, I've used the project in the mpeg2 format as well as in its original edited version. I continue to get the 'Burner is busy with another application'.
It seems many are having this problem and I wonder why Corel hasn't done anything to correct it. I agree with Melda m, after putting the time and effort into creating something enjoyable for others it falls flat when you can't share it.

Re: Error message: The burner is busy with another application
I have not needed to burn a DVD for a long time.
I do not believe the problem is solely with Video Studio and that something, an app is taking control of your CD DVD disc.
So I have gone through the process to burn a DVD using some of my old Mpeg2 videos
This is what I did
First I inserted a Mpeg2 compliant video to the top timeline this activated the Show Messages allowing me to set the project properties to MPEG files-24 bits, 720 x 576, 25 fps (DVD-PAL), 16:9
I then started a new project to empty the timelines.
Share Disc – DVD
I added my Mpeg2 video files to the burner module 4 in all
I did not create any chapters
I used the default menu
Pressing Next 2 times took me to the final page normally I would Create Disc Image
For this I chose to Create Disc
I placed an empty DVD disc in my drive, a little delay and the disc was recognised.
Now I hit Burn
Message that this action will take some time, that’s normal, ok to that
Total Process started with Convert Menu
The burn process completed without problems, no error messages.
This post refers to two problems, one gives errors whilst burning the disc, I assume a Convert Title issue the other being the Burner Is Busy message.
A little confused as to what to suggest as both require a different fix.
For Burner is Busy have you tried a Clean Boot
For any other error messages during burning, make sure you are using compliant mpeg2 video files to avoid the Convert Title, you can check by creating an iso, the process should start with Convert Menu, If you see Convert Title then some settings or the files you are using are the wrong type.
Certainly I do not have a problem in burning a DVD using Video Studio

Re: Error message: The burner is busy with another application
Hi Trevor & Admin helpers,
Still a problem child with no full success to burn a project disc. Have printed out all Admin advice options & tried lots: cleared search history/reboot x 2/Microsoft updates done/deleted CD Burner XP & turned off some apps ETC.
VS Ultimate 2021 enabled system from start to finish (Create to Disc) by normal process -"Burner busy another app"
VS create ISO/Disc Image - SUCCESSFUL - Play back on VLC ok...maybe not as clear viewing on monitor instead of TV but worked.
VS ISO to Burn Disc from Tools "Failed to burn data"
All burn processed start with - Convert Title
From ISO tried external burners several others but inc Windows 10/My DVD/ImgBurn "Invalid Address for write" .
When in external burn sites I notice that searching for the ISO file/folder many times it comes up empty.
I've spent 3 days pretty solid with lots of now confusing notes that I've tried & failed & today VS Ultimate is even slow at loading & drops out prior to finalizing load - best give it a rest tonight & my brain ??
I have also created a 2 min assorted frames project with nothing other than frames - through normal VS process - failed to burn. Was able to create ISO but it would not burn from any source either.
I'm not a person to give up & never have, even back to Ulead days of serious problems.
Guess CURRENT ISSUE how can I get the VS ISO file to burn on SOMETHING & produce ?
I want to SORT THIS EPISODE then look forward to starting another project & hope the "normal" process start to burn disc might just miraculously work.
I appreciate your time & efforts to assist me along the journey to success maybe. Wonder if Irishrose is still having issues ?
Thanks Melda

Melda_
It does seem you have tried other options to burn a disc from ISO.
Either the problem is solely with Video Studio which I doubt or there is an issue with your drive that affects all programs used to burn a DVD
You mentioned ImgBurn in one of your replies
Using Image Burn we choose the video Iso file
The attached image is what I see when using ImgBurn with a new disc in the drive
The app is ready to burn a disc simply by pressing the Blue arrow Iso to Disc icon
What do you see when using ImgBurn

Re: Error message: The burner is busy with another application
Thank you gentlemen for trying to help us through this burner is busy issue.
I am still unable to burn to a DVD. I have tried the suggestions above without success. I thought 'clean boot' would narrow down the problem, however, it did not. I also uninstalled VideoStudio Ultimate 2021 and reinstalled the program as this approach worked with the 2019 version of the program. I am still receiving the same error message. As a side note, I have saved the finished video project as both mpeg2 and mpeg4 and tried using the DVD and the AVCHD disc options.
I have not looked into using another program to burn the finished projects to disc. At this point that would appear to be the only option. If this is the case, would you please suggest programs for this purpose?
Thank you again for your help

Re: Error message: The burner is busy with another application
Morning from Aussie,
I've just tried ImgBurn again. Screen looks same as your image. Gets to 100% buffer then issue.
Have attached photos of screen & document (hope can open) of fail report. Not sure how to screen dump a copy so used camera & Word doc.
About to try a few other things for the day, but not sure what yet.
Will try & see if Project rendered for Blu-ray will go to my external Blu-ray drive & burn ? Then I'll try & see if regular disc might burn also - who knows what works ?
Again thanks for support Melda

Re: Error message: The burner is busy with another application
Melda,
I've been watching this with interest. Several suggestions you may follow:
1. The CD burner
That you get the burn error without VS open and with multiple apps indicates that it is a system/device issue. If every app you use is giving the same result, it really is possible that your burner device is broken, or possibly has a loose cable connection, and you should replace it. A way to check this is to use the windows device management tools. Open Control Panel and choose Device manager from the list. Scroll down the device list to CD/DVD devices, and select the device you have installed. See screenshot, my PC as an example. If it's not there, then you really do have a 'it ain't working' problem. Rt-click the device and choose properties from the list The tabs in this properties panel enable a range of action for the device. The general tab will indicate whether the OS thinks the device is working, or not, and if it indicated as working, the events tab will give some evidence as to what has happened/is going on. If there are any errors, screenshot them. Or, if there are no reports of issues in the properties panel but the burner still doesn't work, screenshot the general, driver and events pages as evidence for a next step.
You can get advice on such from Microsoft Answers (a help community for windows just like this one is for VS) here, https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us , and any screenshots of the properties results you made will be evidence to cite to them.
2. Screen Dumping
To screen dump - short for taking a screenshot of the image you see on your display - is simple. All the tools are readily available with windows.
Step 1. With the image you want to screenshot displayed, press the PrtScr (Print Screen) key on your keyboard. On a standard keyboard, on the very top row, usually next to the right of the F12 key. On a laptop keyboard, you may have to use a combination of keys as the top row usually does double duty - so maybe the prtscr key+alt. Check the laptop manual to get the correct details.
Step 2. Step 1 puts an image of the screen - actually, a copy of the screen memory stored in the PC - into the clipboard. Open the MS Paint application, and choose Paste. You'll get 2 options, just click on paste in the list.
Step 3. Step 2 displays the clipboard image within Paint. You can edit within Paint if you wish - like drawing arrows or circles between or around items for emphasis, and add/locate text within the image. When done, choose File/Save As and then select "jpg picture" from the list that is displayed. A navigation box opens that a) allows you to choose where you want to save the jpg image file, it defaults to the windows pictures folder but you can put it elsewhere; and b) requires that you give a name to file file image. Remember where it will be and what it's called, and click OK.
Now you have a screenshot image available on your machine. To post it to this forum, open a post and add your text, and choose the attachments tab (right next to options at the bottom of post panel). Click Add files. Again, when the navigation panel opens, locate the image you just saved, select it and click open. That uploads the image to the forum, there are some size and filetype limits, but a normal screen image is well within them. You then have an option of adding the image inline - which means what it says but to make it clear, it should be at the start of a new line, so make sure the insertion cursor is sitting at a new line before you do this - or delete file. When you place the image in line, the display simply shows the file name between ampersand characters (&) but will be expanded to the image after you click on submit and the post is displayed.
Done.

Re: Error message: The burner is busy with another application
Thanks David K & other Admin,
I have checked the burner - "This device is working properly" - glad you showed me how to check that - appreciated - Screen shot below hopefully.
So we still have an issue with production via VS.
Amazing explanation how to Screen Print - onto it now - will be keeping this info.
I will look further into Microsoft Answers - from your link - had been on support page but logged nothing to them at this stage.
Earlier this morning I ran VS Share via DVD Blu-ray to an external borrowed Blu-ray device - surprisingly it rendered & output a Blu-ray disc. Have viewed it on TV & works. Sadly not totally crisp as previous VS normal productions - on some video frames some pixilation obvious to me but if that gets me to move on from this production so be it. Second DVD Bluray try straight up said" Burner busy" so I've opted out of VS now & will try from start to see if it will render & output a disc or not.
I still need to get 3 DVD out somehow so wont' give up ! Usual production 3 DVD + 3 Blu-ray for various family members.
My day is dedicated to this - sleep well when you get there !
Appreciated Melda

Re: Error message: The burner is busy with another application
Hi Davidk & lata Trevor
My day has been dedicated to Corel as has the past 3-5 days.
Results - with the external Samsung Blu-ray Disc Portable BD Writer (borrowed) I have managed to produce via Corel Start to Share on Disc 3 x DVD's &
3 x Blu-ray Discs successfully - better not stuff up the direct disc printing - Tomorrow !
Only check I didn't do "fully" this morning after I went into Device Manager & it said ok was to follow through to Events tab - was looking & couldn't see anything abnormal.
BUT mystery STILL is why can't I or Irishrose do this via the Corel VS normal Share option to render & produce discs ?
Is it worth putting a simple question from Admin to all relevant users asking if anyone is having trouble burning to discs particularly through Corel VS Ultimate 2021 - guess a lot don't use discs that's why I'm curious in case an issue in the system (but that doesn't cover why I couldn't burn on ImgBurn etc - did not venture near that today).
Assistance & support really appreciated by all parties & hope there is a fix for VS not processing fully through. If no bugs do I then turn to "Microsoft answers" link you enclosed.
David thought you were USA then realized not so your sleep still awaits tonight.
Thanks Melda

Re: Error message: The burner is busy with another application
A lot going on overnight, thank you David
Melda as you are able to burn a disc using Video Studio and the Portable Writer it would indicate that Video Studio is working correctly and the problem lies with the internal DVD Drive, which from the ImgBurn details does not support BD (I may be wrong there)
So either one of your Apps has taken control of the drive or the drive is faulty.
I ran a test and by running WinDVD that took over my DVD / BD Drive
Running Video Studio to burn a disc did show the same message that the burner was being used by another app.
Closed WinDVD with the same message from Video Studio, a re-boot of Video Studio sorted that, now working ok.
If it is an app taking control it is becoming hard to find, a clean boot was mentioned although I do find the process a little confusing but may be worth doing.
Video Studio also installs MyDVD which is separate to Video Studio, try using that but as things are going I think you will have the same results
You could try uninstalling the drive from Device Manager, right click the drive and choose Uninstall Device
Re-booting the PC should install that device again
My original thoughts were to disconnect the DVD drive from the pc, reboot pc, check Device Manager. Close pc and reinstall the DVD Drive, again running the pc should re-install the drivers.

Re: Error message: The burner is busy with another application
Hi Trevor & David, I'll leave you in peace for a while - thanks for your technical ideas. I do tend to agree that the issue is not via VS itself so will commence a new project & hope for an issue free run !
When I tried ImgBurn it was on DVD-R only. I had tried MyDVD also. Anyway moving on seeing the external drive has assisted me some what.
I will get a friend, who is a bit more technical than me, in the coming weeks to endeavour to see what app is taking control of the burner before I need to output & burn a disc again. Recommended instructions are printed out & will be utilized.
Again - great service & appreciated

Re: Error message: The burner is busy with another application
Hopefully your friend will be game enough to open your computer casing, and then disconnect the burner, run the computer, turn it off again, and reconnect the burner. Then turn the computer on again and see if the message is gone...

Re: Error message: The burner is busy with another application
Hello Everyone,
I have been following the conversation, results, and lack of results closely. Unfortunately I do not have an external device to attempt burning to. I am grateful that you gentlemen are helping us work through this.
This is not the first time I have had issues creating disks with VideoStudio. It seems that every time I upgrade the software there are complications trying to burn to a disk. With version x9 the problem was with the VS program. After multiple attempts the program would not complete burning the project. What was required was an uninstall/reinstall of the program. Thinking that this might be the same type of problem here I uninstalled/reinstalled the program without success. Fortunately, I still have an old windows 7 computer with VS version x9 installed and was able burn the project to disk. However, the quality of the playback on TV was less than desired with more pixelation than one would want. At least I have a poor quality disk of the project. However, it is not good enough to share.
Back to the problem at hand: having another burner available we installed it into the computer (disconnecting the existing one) and attempted to burn to the new drive. Still the same 'burner is busy' error message. A clean boot of the system was also not successful in determining what the issue is.
Several things come to mind, that probably have no bearing on this problem, but at this point I am willing to try just about anything. The computer I am using was upgraded to a windows 10 operating system. Before adding any additional software to the computer I checked for compatibility issues. Finding that VS x9 would not run on windows 10 I purchased the upgrade to VS2021. After completing the first project I find that, once again, I am unable to finish the project to disk. Needless to say this is frustrating.
Could this be a problem with the original download of the VS 2021 software program? A glitch somewhere that is undetectable?
Windows 10 has its own video editor program (hidden in the photos ap), could this be what is causing our problems?
I submitted the problem to Corel tech support but have not received a response.
VideoStudio is a good program with great features and options. We can create some very nice projects with the program. I just wish it didn't come with these problems.
Thanks again for helping with this.
