After a few years of inaction I want to revisit a project I did 10 years ago. Everything still works except that when I play the video in edit mode there is no sound. When I press the sound mixer button the sound is there but the video track changes from video to a sound track. I don't know what I have done wrong and my general video editing experience is a bit rusty and maybe a recent VideoStudio upgrade has been naughty. Can somebody help?
Cheers.

Re: Sound missing
Hi
First can you tell us what version of Video Studio you are using, your profile shows X3 is that correct, if no can you update your profile.
Is this problem using Video clips or Audio clips, or both.
There were some issues playing some video / audio types in Clip or Project mode, MP3 audio using a Lame Codec was particularly suspect.
Video using Mov and some earlier MP4 may need the Quicktime codec installing.
Can you right click a video clip on the timeline and choose properties what are they?
One issue I recall was fixed by changing the volume level from 100%, set 99% and for some reason we could then hear the sound.
As far as I recall rendering was ok with the volume being available on the output file.
Please note that if you open the older VSP projects using 2020 you will not be able to open in an earlier version, you are best to create a copy to use in 2020.

Re: Sound missing
If in fact you are using a more recent version of VS, then another problem is that Corel for some unknown reason has dropped support for Dolby in Windows 7 altogether. So if your audio is either Dolby multi-channel or dual channel, that could be the problem. In Win 10 you can still have dual channel Dolby stereo but not 5.1.

Re: Sound missing
I am using VS Pro X3. When video clip are visible there is no sound and when I press "Sound mixer" there is sound and the video clips are replaced by audio volume graphics.
In addition to video clips from my own camera the project also contains clips from another camera. Properties of my own clips and of the imported clips are attached.
The plot has thickened a bit. 10 years ago the DVD created by this project ran without any hiccups. This time about 15 mins into the show the video begins to stammer, stop/start and finally stop. Curiously, the problem seems to start at the position of the first "imported" clip. No bubbles on the disk label. A 10 years old MPG video filed on computer from this project runs fine. My real problem is that I want to run a DVD on a different DVD player that requires MP3 or WMA format. The existing DVD is in MPG format. Hence I have to create a new disk from the original project.
Thank you for your assistance

Hi
As for the audio looking at the video properties there does not seem any issues both being bog standard.
So I don’t understand why you are having problems, are you having problems with both of these video files.?
First, all DVD Players, those types that are connected to a TV that play DVD discs have to use Mpeg2 video format, the Mpeg2 is cut into 1 Gb sections and labelled as a .VOB file.
A DVD disc holds 4.3 Gb of data so a full disc will have 4 Vobs at 1 Gb and a fifth to use the extra .3 Gb.
If your DVD player has a USB input port then yes that may be limited to MP4 WMV, but playing an actual disc uses Mpeg2.
A little concerned regarding your video samples as they use a different field order, one using Upper Field and the other Lower field.
If you combine these in to one project one of the files will be changed to match the other, this will impact on the quality noticeable by seeing jagged edges whilst playing the video.
In addition to that one is using 4:3 the other 16:9 ratio. You may have to consider converting the 4:3 to 16:9.
OK
You can create two projects one for Upper Field and one for Lower Field, render each to Same as First clip will create a Mpeg2 video file, well two video files.
Start a new project, that clears the timeline
Share Disc – DVD opening the burner module, here you add the two video files.
The burner process should complete without further conversion using the two video files as is.
You should choose to create an Iso File , Disc Image, you can then play that using VLC Media player to check quality before burning the actual disc

Re: Sound missing
Sorry for delay. I was busy on other things.
First I thought that there may be a faulty clip in the project. Removed clips and re-rendered new DVDs. Each time the DVD stopped at about 15 mins.
I have 2 DVD players. Player No 2 looked like it wanted to play only WMA or Jpeg disks. The manual for No2 is quite complex and hard to follow for a simple head like mine, so I gave up on this one, but after having spent about half a dozen disks I decided to give No 2 another go and to my astonishment it worked OK and went right through the 15 min hitch without a whimper. No idea what I did or did not do but who cares. The stutter/stop problem is with the No 1 DVD player.
In the process I also found that the sound on the rendered disks is normal so everything is OK and although the sound/video twist in the VS project is not fixed I can make workable DVDs so I am happy.
Thanks for your help.

Thanks for the update.
If you are making coasters when burning the DVD’s you should first create a Disc Image ISO as mentioned before
This is an exact copy of the disc content and when burnt to disc the files are not converted or encoded again, so if the iSO plays ok using VLC Media Player the final disc should also play ok.
But good to know things are working ok
