PSP X2 won't start
Occasionally I find that PSP X2 (yes I know it is an old version but it does everything I want) won't start by any means (eg double click on an image file, double click on PSP icon and also select PSP and Run as Administrator).
When this happens I find if I reboot my PC (shutdown/restart) it then works as expected.
Any ideas what causes this as it seems to be the only app which won't start.

Re: PSP X2 won't start
It sounds like an issue PSP seems to suffer from, in all versions. When it doesn't start, check in Windows Task Manager if PSP is already present there. If it is, kill it (all its instances). It should then start normally, the next time you launch it.

Re: PSP X2 won't start
You may also try Process Lasso that gives more possibilities and features than Windows task manager. You may truly see if it's working and change the priority of PSP X2 to make it work properly. I use it for Modern Warfare since Windows keeps changing the priority after updates...

Thanks
Next time it happens I will try both.

Re: PSP X2 won't start
Use Windows 10 Compatibility Troubleshooter- sometimes emulating an older version of Windows helps.

Re: PSP X2 won't start
Thanks. I will try to remember to use that.
Well it did happen again since I posted (would not start) and although the PSP icon was not displayed on the task bar (as I had closed it earlier) I found an entry in task manager. When I removed it I could then start PSP.
Is there a problem using PSP X2 with Windows 10 (that when the user exits it disappears from the screen and task bar but is still in memory as a task?

Re: PSP X2 won't start
It's not a problem associated only with X2, but with all versions. I get it pretty regularly have done for years. Quite a few others have as well. I have just gotten used to looking in Task Manager and ending whatever process is still running there when I close whatever version of PSP I am using and then can't reopen it. That has always worked.jparnold wrote:Is there a problem using PSP X2 with Windows 10 (that when the user exits it disappears from the screen and task bar but is still in memory as a task?

Re: PSP X2 won't start
Thanks Ken.
I wonder if Corel know about it and if so they are not bothered looking for the reason as I have never had any other program/app cause that to happen. I can't remember it happening with Windows 7.
Also I don't think I have ever had any version of VideoStudio has caused me this problem either - Windows 7 or 10.

Re: PSP X2 won't start
Corel is well aware of it. It has been reported in this forum for years -- not that Corel monitors the forum. But we have also reported it during beta testing of various versions. The problem is that it doesn't affect everyone and thus pinning it down is rather elusive. The workaround of going to Task Manager also gives them a good excuse even if it takes a little time...

Re: PSP X2 won't start
Hi
As far as I am aware the problem was fixed with the latest version PSP 2021, at least 95% +
There are odd occasions when it occurred but that was pushing the boundaries whilst testing.
Of course that does not help you using X2, at least you know to use task manager to end task.
I do recall someone on the PSP forum creating a file on the desktop as a shortcut to force PSP to close, maybe dreaming….

Re: PSP X2 won't start
Hello Trevor,
Thanks for that info and it is good that (it seems) the problem was fixed with PSP2021.
PSPX2 does everything I want so I will put up with the occasional inconvenience.
Hope the '2nd wave' doesn't cause you too much 'invonvenience'.
John

Re: PSP X2 won't start
I've used all versions of PSP since PSP 10 to 2021 and never have had the problem with the program shutting down or re-opening properly. So for some strange reason this does not happen to all users.

Re: PSP X2 won't start
Thanks for your reply and observation. I think that the problem is confined to Windows 10 (you are using W7) as I can't remember it happening when I was using Windows 7.
