How Can I Speed Up PaintShopPro?
Every time I switch between tools, use the paintbrush, use the clone brush, etc. there is a significant delay. It makes using PSP very slow. Is this inherent to PSP or is there something which can be done with my computer to have seamless (or at least quicker) transitions between tools and uses of tools? Thank you.

Re: How Can I Speed Up PaintShopPro?
Is the delay happening also when you switch to a tool that does not use brushes, presets, etc? Like the Dropper Tool for example?
Have a look at this topic: https://forum.corel.com/viewtopic.php?f=56&t=67365
and see if it has anything to do with your issue (like having a ton of saved brushes in your hard-disk). Even so, they should be cached the very 1st time, and be quite fast after that.
Does this delay happen even when PSP is the only program running? In general, there could be a number of reasons. Have also a look at the rest of that topic, above.

Re: How Can I Speed Up PaintShopPro?
There's less lag with the dropper tool. There is/was a lot of lag when typing.
I checked out that forum now and I opened Corel while holding down the shift key (resetting the settings). That seems to have sped it up a bit! Thank you for that. There is still some lag when typing but not as much.

Don't set your Step value to 1. Go to 10, for example.PixelatedDS wrote: There is still some lag when typing but not as much.

That's not for the text tool is it? Thank you for your reply.
It takes up a lot of memory/RAM when editing text. It's very cumbersome to use. Merci beaucoup

Re: How Can I Speed Up PaintShopPro?
PSP is not designed to handle text. The text function is only intended for short texts to be placed on images. If there is a lot of text, PSP will slow down because the text function is not a real word processor like Word.PixelatedDS wrote:... when editing text. It's very cumbersome to use.

The text is about a couple paragraphs. What alternatives should be used?

Re: How Can I Speed Up PaintShopPro?
Any publisher/design tool that is vector specific can handle large amounts of text.
I would like to note, PSP 2020 specifically addressed text rendering speeds and memory usage. It's still not the equivalent of a publisher application like Inkscape, Designer, Illustrator, etc. but it does handle better. And doesn't seem to experience the same level of extreme slow-down that previous versions of PSP did.

Re: How Can I Speed Up PaintShopPro?
- First of all, do a reset (launch PSP with Shift key down until it asks you to confirm). This will clean the possible corrupted cache files. Your workspace will be set to default but your documents and files will be preserved.PixelatedDS wrote:The text is about a couple paragraphs. What alternatives should be used?
- Use an external program (NotePad is enough) to enter your text and past it in PSP.
- Using the old text input window may help: select the Text tool, hold The Shift key down and click in the image. You will get an input window like this: PS : how many words in your paragraphs?

Re: How Can I Speed Up PaintShopPro?
Thank you for your advice. I really appreciate it.
I recently did a reset (based on advice in the forum elsewhere). It sped up some tools I believe but the text tool is still slow.
I did use Notepad to edit the text and then I pasted it, but I am currently trying to modify the spacing between the lines (using leading) and it lags significantly. Is this issue unique to PSP? Do other photo editing programs do the same or is there another Corel product which performs better at this?
I tried the old text input window and it still lags.
There are 370 words in the text I'm editing, but I've had the problem with less words.

Re: How Can I Speed Up PaintShopPro?
I have created a 380 words text and placed it inside a rectangular selection in a A4 size image. Font is Arial without stroke.PixelatedDS wrote: There are 370 words in the text I'm editing, but I've had the problem with less words.
In my PSP X8, it takes 2 to 3 seconds to adjust the text after I change the Leading value.
In my PSP 2021, the same operation is near instantly.
CorelDraw (Home or Student) is another Corel product able to work with text without lag. I have CorelDraw X5 and the text is modified in a fraction of a second even if full page or multiple pages (text may overlap and continue on multiple pages, like a word processor).

Re: How Can I Speed Up PaintShopPro?
Thank you very much for your help. I the image my text was on was quite large. I just got a new computer with more RAM and it has been doing quite well. Merci beaucoup
