Audio ahead of video after export

Post by Jeremi »

Basically as in the title. I'm using "Corel VideoStudio 2020" and making a classical music video with the sheet music as a slideshow. This syncs in the actual project timeline, but when the video is actually exported to an MPEG-4 file, or any other format for that matter, the audio falls out of sync and gets ahead of the video.

I've been doing research and this apparently has something to do with being a variable framerate versus a constant framerate, but I don't think there's anything said about this issue in the PDF manual, any help would be appreciated

If indeed the original video was filmed with a camera using variable frame rate -- and a lot of modern smartphones do so -- then you would need to put the video through a video converter program (such as the free Handbrake) to output video with similar properties but with a standard fixed frame rate. Video Studio needs a fixed frame rate such as 25 or 50 fps for PAL and 29.97 (30) or 59.94 (60) fps for NTSC. Then put the new video in Video Studio. Hopefully that should fix things.

If not, then in Share turn off SmartRender as in the past that was identified as the culprit in some cases of out of sync video and audio.

No, the audio was imported but the video itself consists of isolated screenshots that were imported to the project timeline at specified times. When exported into a video, the audio is out of sync with the video even though it isn't the case in the project itself.

I tried turning off SmartRender and exported again and that didn't help unfortunately, I assume what's happening is the project timeline itself is a variable frame rate then the video becomes exported in a fixed frame rate?

Video editors work in a constant frame rate, not variable. You select your project setting for resolution and frames per second. And that is what you should get IF the imported video actually meets those settings.

I am try to understand exactly how you are working on your project. I gather you have audio on the timeline and have still images?

What are your project settings?

Yes. The video consists of images separately imported into the project timeline (with fade in effects) and the imported audio is a single file. What do you mean by project settings?

This is bizarre... in the project timeline, when started from the beginning, the audio and video are also out of sync, but when you start playback from various points in the timeline, the slides and audio are synchronised together. The slides always appear at the designated time, and the audio itself, when playback is initiated from the beginning, is faithful to the original import, but when audio is selected at certain points in the project timeline, the playback for that point is no longer the same as for that point in the original audio.

e.g. When started from the beginning of the project timeline, the audio ends correctly at 54:34; when started from a timestamp of 54:00 or so, it ends at 54:40?

I created a new project to check this. No, this isn't an issue when the audio is less than 25 minutes.

I get this issue frequently, along with various other audio issues.

This version of VideoStudio has serious issues with audio alignment, and creating "pops" of audio where there should be silence.
