MS Pro v7 refuses to install

My system is brand new, I just finished installing the OS XP home. I have installed only Acrobat Reader and that went fine. In goes my new MSPro disk and after a few moments the usual error message occurs. I see from the forum that this happens occasionaly. So what should I do? Please be specific and detailed. I won't be able to responed for a week because I am off shooting some HD footage. Thank you very much for your assistance.
