Low resolution in MultiCam production

Post by ericburgermusic »

I just recently purchased VideoStudio Ultimate 2020 so that I could mix and render multiple cameras. My question is this:

All of original video is 1920 X 1080, but the rendered video from the MultiCam is only 854 X 480, making the quality almost unusable for me.

I do not see anyway to adjust the output quality so that the MultiCam render is of the same quality as the original video, nor do I see any reference to it in the manual. I am hoping I didn't purchase the wrong product.

Thank you for your help.

VS's 480p default output is normally 720x480. What did you specify for project properties and for properties of the rendered file?

Hi ericburgermusic
Yes the multi cam vsp for some reason uses lower settings
However the mcc vsp is as such just a container holding your hd clips, the project file being inserted to the library.

Set the timeline properties to match your HD video properties

We then drag the mcce.vsp to the timelines all HD clips are added to the timelines which is using the higher HD settings 1920 X 1080.
Save that project. Now you are working with a he project matching the original video

The process of inserting one vsp to the timeline, effectively adding one vsp inside another vsp is known as nesting.
It would be better if mcce did use the properties of the original video for camera one.

You can change the resolution of the proxies.
In the MCE, you will see the "gear" in the upper left corner.
Gear>Smart Proxie Manager>Settings, you can choose the resolution of the proxy files created.
Just make sure that your computer is capable of handling the files smoothly when creating your multicam. You can experiment, but your hardware my struggle.
As posted above, these are proxies and are used in final exporting. Proxies are made to make lower res files that are much easier on your computer hardware.

I set the project at 1920 X 1080.

I just can't seem to make it look less than Crappy.

Hi
Can you give us some more details
1 / First insert your video file to the library, you can create a new library page for these files.
2 / Right click one of the clips, the one that is intended to be Camera 1 as that frame rate will be used, what are the properties?

Set up the timeline.....
3 / Drag the first clip / camera 1 clipto the timelines, should show a message to match the project properties to the video clips properties
4 / Also check Settings Project Properties to make sure they are as your video clips properties.
5 / delete the clip from the timeline

6 / from the library select all clips to be used in MCE, right click the selection for Multi Cam Editor, this opens the Source Manager with your clips selected
7 / Top – Project Name – you can give the project a new meaningful name
8 / Click ok will open the editor
9 / Set a couple of options, then OK to close
10 / returning to the timelines the new project shows in the library
11/ drag that .vsp to the timelines to display as expanded, DO NOT hold Shift to flatten
12 / File – Save as to save the project
Now you are working with a 1920 x 1080 project containing 1920 x 1080 video files.

13 / File – New Project to clear the timelines
From the library
13 / double click the MCE.vsp to open the project and continue editing in MCE
14 / repeat from #10

Does that improve things.
