Project Props dialog box after updating to August 2020
Project Props dialog box after updating to August 2020
This showed up today after I installed August 2020 update.

Installation was a problem. It kept failing (hanging right at the end) and giving me an error that a certain folder could not be created. I don't remember the folder name, but "Amazing Titles" was at the end of it. I also remember that /23.0/ was part of the folder name. I didn't think periods were allowed in folder names... is that why it failed?

I tried about 5 times to install the update but even though I got the same error the last time, it continued and "finished" (I did not choose "skip.") How do I know if I have "Amazing Titles?" (I saw the threads about how long the update takes. 15 minutes or so for me the last time. I could see the virus scan going through each element which took time.)

More importantly, how do I get VS to speak English again? :| I changed it to German, closed/reopened the program then changed it back to English, then closed/reopened. No luck.

Hi McMP
Sorry you are having problems after installing SP4,

First yes the SP install process does seem to stall at the end but patience seems to allow it to complete
I did not have these problems with the SP4 install completing ok, I did first download the file and installed later after re-booting the program.
The first update downloaded through the program where are the second attempt to install downloaded the file through my Chrome browser, I don’t know why there was that difference, but both actual installs completed in 4 minutes, however that does not help you.
The Amazing Titles appear to be part of the FX BCC Title Studio, files are located here, I see 40 folders
\Documents\Corel VideoStudio Pro\23.0\VSPTemplate\Amazing Titles
As a side note -- 2020 is the first program to save these files in this location?

Ok
If it is the Amazing Titles that have caused the language problem then you could try to install SP4 again but first re-name the folder
\Documents\Corel VideoStudio Pro\23.0\VSPTemplate\
To
\Documents\Corel VideoStudio Pro\23.0\VSPTemplate_OLD
And if that does not help…..

Try Resetting the Program
Close Video Studio
Rename the folder “23.0” to “23.0_Old”
C:\Users\UserName\AppData\Roaming\Ulead Systems\Corel VideoStudio Pro (x64)\23.0
Running the program will create a new 23.0 folder
Does that help?

Re-install the program
Do you have any other Video Studio versions installed or just 2020

Personally I would uninstall CVS2020, choosing to remove all personal data.
Check that \Documents\Corel VideoStudio Pro\23.0\VSPTemplate\ has been removed
Run the VideoStudio_Install.exe to download the program to a new empty folder.
It should give the option to also download SP4, I would deselect that.
Installing the program should install as SP3, now check the language issue has been fixed
After rebooting the program I would install SP4 again.

It is possible that Corel will at some time incorporate SP4 with the downloaded installation files, so simply installing CVS2020 will give you the 23.3.0.646 version, with no need for SP4

Thanks, Trevor! I appreciate, so much, how much time you took to help me.

1st suggestion, No luck.

Next, I was going to un/re/install, but when I clicked "uninstall" it offered "Repair," so I tried that first.

(A side note which may help someone down the road: You suggested I uninstall any old versions. I did have Pro X6 installed, so I did a manual delete before repairing 2020. There was no uninstall option because (I assume ) it is old and and not written for Win 10. Manual delete instructions can be found on COREL website. Don't drink before doing this! ;-) In this process I had to delete the X6 folder in Programs and this took me a few hours to figure out. I kept getting permission errors even though I was the owner of the folder. I won't bore everyone with the details, but I tried A LOT of things I found online. In the end, the only thing that worked was this: Open the folder you want to delete, open that folder, and keep opening folders until you get to the lowest one in the tree. Delete that lowest folder, and keep going up the tree until you've deleted every folder. For whatever reason, I could delete folders this way, but not the topmost "mothership" folder. I'm sure others will want to tell me that I didn't have my permissions set correctly somewhere along the way, but trust me, this is a MS Win 10 issue that is all over the internet and the answer always given is "change the owner and permissions," which rarely, if ever works. Okay, back to the Chinese issue.

After "repair" had finished, I opened the program and Bingo!, we're speaking English now. Upon opening the program, it also offered the update, so I did that. It updated with no issues (no hang up with Amazing Titles). So again, I opened the program and DRATS!, we're back to Chinese (but remember, only in some parts of the program as shown in my OP).

I'm thinking I should actually uninstall it (and not repair it) and try again??? Thoughts?

Thank you so much for your help!!!!

Hi McMP
First you can use a cleanup tool for X6, running that should remove any leftovers on your PC, hopefully.
https://forum.corel.com/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=59847

Corel have not provided a cleanup tool for 2020, at least for general release, there is one version but unfortunately does affect other installed versions of Video Studio.

Yes as you are still having problems I would re-install the program
I will e-mail you

Hi Trevor,
When I ran the Cleanup Tool for X6 it said it couldn't find anything. Either it needs the user data files to still be there or I did a thorough job. LOL. I was careful and deleted all the registry entries, etc.

Perhaps I should Repair it again which puts it back into it's working state and then wait until Corel incorporates SP4 into the 2020 download (why haven't they?). Once that happens I can so an un/reinstall. Otherwise, I may spend hours chasing this down. Microsoft already cost me 3/4 of a day trying to delete the old X6. I'm not doing anything too terribly fancy so I can't imagine there's anything critical for me in the SP4.

Whacha think?

Thanks!
Don

Hi Don
I think you should uninstall CVS2020
Then running the installation stub to download the program again to a new folder,
We have to uninstall before we are allowed to download again, earlier versions allowed downloading whilst the program was installed by deselecting a check box “ do not download installed packs”

As it stands now if you run the stub for Modify it should show the installed packs.
I have just done that and found that the Standards Content 2 is not installed,
The process started with downloading the pack again, in progress I can only assume Corel have updated that pack.

Don, yesterday I did e-mail , did you receive that message.
