real time render vs smart proxy

Post by Rhopman1986 »

Hi all,

I was just wondering, how come that programs like Davinci Resolve and Adobe Premiere Pro have real time rendering and Corel Video Studio has not? I can remember a long time I once read something about a codec license, but not sure if that is the reason?
Smart Proxy is a bit of the answer of Corel for this right?

Btw thumbs up for Corel. I tried both Premiere Pro and Davinci Resolve, but to be honest I didnt really like Premiere Pro except for the real time rendering. Too many windows, overcomplicated unclear menu structures, default too small timeline, etc.
I worked with it a month or so, but to be honest I cant find really anything that I would miss in Corel Videostudio. Well perhaps the color correction, but since I use digital/game footage only anyway, I dont care at all.

You can set VS's priority to Realtime in the OS.

If you're referring to colour correction, VS has had it since VS2018.

Exactly what do you mean by "real time rendering"?

Yes, I confess I too am puzzled by what you mean by "realtime rendering". I have always thought VS rendered in real time, and I've been using VS since version 7 (that's 7, not X7). How long it took a project to render could be affected by a number of factors -- length of the video included, its format, complicated filters added, etc. But it was all nonetheless done in real time.

Then Corel introduced an extra called SmartRender which was designed to speed up rendering in some cases. SmartRender means that when you have video in a project which is already in exactly the same format as the format you are wanting to produce and nothing has been done to those bits during the editing, then the rendering which is applied to other parts of the project don't need to be applied to those bits.
