Spectrum Analyzer Plugin?

Post by windygamer »

Image

I would like to find an Audio Video Spectrum plugin for Video Studio. The image is an example, but other looks are interesting. A timing clock as shown on the right is nice too.
Thanks.

I was intrigued by your query and I think the short answer is there aren't any at this stage. Of course I could be proven completely wrong but this effect seems to be the domain of Adobe After Effects. This is not a criticism of Videostudio. I think you would be hard pressed to find another editor which had this feature. Interestingly I discovered that the free open source editor Shotcut does in fact has this effect. After watching the youtube video below I was able to create a bar graph similar to yours within 5 minutes. So you could use Shotcut to generate a spectrum analysis video and then import it into Videostudio for final editing.

I hope this helps. Have fun. :)

Yes I'd thought that might work.
It seems that two free video editors have this feature built in. I'll be checking them out to see how they work.

Audio Spectrum & Waveform Visualization in Shotcut Video Editor
and
VSDC Free Video Editor

Thanks.

Not sure just why you would want this, but there is an audio waveform analysis available within VS.
- import your audio (voice or music) to the audio or music track.
- select it
- in the main timeline tool bar, select the sound mixer icon. That turns the selected track into an audio waveform display of the sound in it. Stretch out the main timeline/adjust track height if you want to look more closely at details.
- you can cut and trim, adjust volumes etc as normal in this mode.
- there are audio filters available in the options panel if you want to fiddle with things like hiss reduction, high-frequency exclusion/low-pass filters.
- de-select the sound mixer icon to return to the normal track display

If this albeit small display of audio waveforms isn't good enough, try using the free audacity program - is does all this and more in a much larger screen space.

If what you want to do is present the audio waveform as a visual image - eg, in a video tutorial or similar for viewer to see - then what I suggest is that you use the audacity program to display the waveform, and screen capture the waveform elements shown in a video file. I see your details list x10 - that version includes a neat screen capture program, which you can customise the part of the screen that is captured, and it also allows voice capture (a voice commentary of what is happening) and mouse clicks. The resulting captured video file can be imported into VS for editing and cleanup as needed.

David, it's not for any sound use, it's decades old visual FX.
