VS Ultimate 2020 - failure to render short clips

Post by IslandScribe »

VS Ultimate 2020, installed August 22 (complete re-install as directed by Corel to resolve instability)
Windows 10 Home version 1909, 64 bit
Acer Computer, Intel Core i5 (3.2 GHz), 8 gigs Ram, 1.3 TB hard drive
Serviced on August 20...clean up

I'm attempting to complete a one minute video that involves a lot of short clips. Due to the instability of VS, I've been creating them in short segments. The video was originally filmed on a Samsung Edge S7 cell phone. Filming on a cell phone is a requirement of the club challenge I'm entering.

This video is a stretch for me because it included actors, 4 locations, and my first attempt to use a green screen.

I have not been able to reliably render the clips. The attached is the error message I received when attempting to render to WMV. The segment is 4.01 seconds long so it certainly doesn't contain 296 frames. I couldn't find any way to count them or identify them, so I literally counted them click by click and there were approximately 160. (Sorry - it was 2 a.m. and I didn't record the number.)

Another four-second segment had the same error at frame 1. I deleted that frame and it rendered. I attached it.

Trying to export to other formats crashed VS.

A third slightly longer segment recorded the same error at Frame One...I deleted the first frame and the same error message appeared. I gave up - it was after 2 a.m.

Error message from export attempt. I did try to follow the directions posted on this forum to see the individual frames but with no luck.

Hi IslandScribe
Can you right click a clip on the timelines and choose properties, what are they?
The frame rate showing here should be used for your Project Properties ( Alt + Enter) ( settings – Project Properties)

I suspect the Iphone video is using a variable frame rate which seems difficult to edit as the timelines have to use a constant rate.
If so you may be best to convert the video to a more editable format using a constant frame rate

Then I don’t understand why rendering to WMV
At the top of the Share is the option ( Same as Project Settings) a little greyed out, but tick that and then using the down arrow for Same as first clip, if available. try that option.

Thanks Treveor. I tried another short segment that didn't have any cell phone footage included and it rendered just fine.
Any ideas on how to 'clean up' the cell phone footage?
I'm going to go do some real work because I'm very far behind on a promised marketing package because I've been wasting far too much time on this.
But I am going to try and implement all your suggestions as soon as I get far enough ahead on the marketing stuff to not get yelled at tomorrow. ;-)
.... two weeks until I officially retire ...

Hi
There are many free video converters that can be used, these being used by some of the forums members
Format Factory http://freetime.tech/
Handbrake https://handbrake.fr/
AVC https://www.any-video-converter.com/pro ... ideo_free/
Video to Video https://www.videotovideo.org/

Take care in installing free converters as some do try to install extras, browser plugins, virus scans etc
Format Factory asked to install something called Web Discovery, I simply declined the offer, then no problems with the program.
