Do you know what did I do wrong to get this error ?

Does this happen each time you try it? It may be random.

I want to cover the left brown spot in the layer. What I did is to copy part of the right area and cover up the brown spot.

From where is coming this brown spot? If you have filled the empty raster following my steps, the page should be uniform.

Really thanks for your help. I tried to follow your steps but when I tried to drag the layer to the workspace. Nothing happened. Did I miss some steps ?

Most probably okyou is working in a Tabbed Documents interface, where drag & drop on the workspace is not working. When the Tabbed Documents is enabled (Windows menu) then the layer drag & drop for getting a new image works if we let off the mouse on the empty area of any open toolbar (in PSP 2021 just ignore the icon showing that we cannot).

Okyou should uncheck Tabbed documents.

Oh Thanks. I turned off the Tabbed Document and it worked. However, if I only want to change only a region of the original layer with a bottom layer, then there will be a slight color mismatch line between the 2 layers as shown as attached pic. How can I smooth them out the color mismatch ?

Following my steps, I suppose you made a horizontal selection and not a vertical. You cannot use a horizontal selection because you have a shadow from left to right on your page. This will need to apply a Luminosity gradient to correct it and it is not easy to obtain a good result. I suggest you make a vertical selection as shown in my messages. The vertical selection has a better uniform luminosity.
