Smart Render

Post by dmart7 »

I understand Smart Render speeds up rendering times by not rendering those parts of the project which are already in the intended format. I would just like to confirm whether this also means that those same parts of the project will be lossless. For example, if I have a MP4 HD video into which I want to add in titles, transitions and extra video clips, and choose smart render, does this mean that the original video section(s) will be lossless, and of the same quality? I suspect the answer lies in the question, but I just want to be sure. If so, are there any constraints, eg. size or number of sections, original or inserted? And if I edit out sections of the original video, would that mean the remaining sections can still be smart-rendered, or would they be newly rendered and therefore compressed? Thanks

As you say, the answer lies in the question. I always have it ticked on. In fact I wonder why there is even a tick box?! I believe applying effects will be rendered but not simple cuts. The best thing to do is play with the software and determine it for yourself. :)

Over the years quite a few users have reported various problems, and turning off SmartRender has often fixed them. So keeping the tick box still has its uses.

I'm having *soul-destroying* issues with rendering and I did find turning off Smart Render allowed me to render a short clip that was otherwise crashing the program. It didn't solve all my issues but it did help in that instance.

I wrote *soul destroying* because I'm trying to complete a little heart project to a deadline and VS is not cooperating with me.

Hi IslandScribe
You may be best to start a new topic describing the problems you are having with your project
Tell us what type of video you are using, right click the clip on the timelines and choose properties, what are they?

I assume the project is only short at 1 minute as you mentioned in your other post to the wish list.
If you dont mind sharing your project you could create a Smart Package, zip and upload to a sharing site, provide us with a download link, we can try the project with our program.
