OT: Computer gurus? Keyboard input very slow!
All keyboard input to any program or online delayed by about one second. Lots of research done. All point to Ease of Access settings and how to deactivate them.. I have unchecked all of them - no change. Any ideas? This is short because it took forever to type it! This sentence didn't complete until more than 5 seconds passed!

Re: OT: Computer gurus? Keyboard input very slow!
Interesting article, but likely wasn't my problem because my computer ran fine - not slow. It was only the keyboard input that was running with a delay, the type of delay you get from the Ease of Access settings.
However, the problem is now resolved. It took trying various suggested methods from online research to deactivate Ease of Access options and several reboots after each effort, but this last reboot seems to have done the trick. Rebooted after going back and making to check and then uncheck the keyboard Ease of Access settings as well as using the suggested keyboard shortcuts that were said to activate and inactivate Ease of Access. Figured I might as well do all of the suggested fixes at once just in case one or a combination of them worked before rebooting. When I rebooted this time I got a popup I'd never seen before about some script not being found (too stupid to have thought to write down the numbers it showed for future research) but don't know if that was the culprit or not.
In any event, thanks for reading and replying. This being the third day I have struggled with the issue, just glad the frustration is over! Hope it sticks!
EDIT: The only thing I can think of that might have caused the issue is that perhaps I actually accidentally hit one of the keyboard shortcut combinations that turned on some Ease of Access functions even though they didn't show up as checked when I looked at the settings through the Control Panel. They are definitely not usual combos - except I think something happens when the shift key is held down for 8 seconds but I don't recall off the top of my head what that effect is.

I'm glad you were able to figure it out. Windows has a lot of hidden and unusual stuff...

Re: OT: Computer gurus? Keyboard input very slow!
You appear to be using Win 8.1 but I believe that is the same as Win 10. And if you look at the All Apps menu, you will see down under W a number of folders (Windows Accessories, Windows Admin Tools etc) and there is a further separate folder: Windows Ease of Access...

Re: OT: Computer gurus? Keyboard input very slow!
Thank you Ken, yes I'm on Windows 8.1.
I just saw there is a whole Ease of Access category in the control panel (LOL). Actually I knew about its several components like text-to-speech, onscreen keyboard, etc, but I was not remembering the name of the category itself... I rarely use any of those tbh.

Well, grandma and sucking eggs! After reading you that lesson, I looked in Control Panel -- which I do several times a week for various other reasons -- and noticed for the very first time that there's an Ease of Access icon there too!!
