Cannot register download version of VS9

Post by jgc »

I've bought the download version of VS9 for use in a school. The school has a very restrictive internet filter; and it turns out everything goes through a SOCKS proxy. Unfortunately I can't get the registration component in VS9 to work through this.

I have tried two main approaches. Firstly, as the registration page uses IE (specifically, not my chosen web browser) to get to Ulead's servers, I configured IE to use SOCKS. No joy. Then I tried using SOCKSCap to fool the whole of the VS9 application into using SOCKS without it realising. No joy either.

There doesn't seem to be a telephone option, or any other way to register it. Result: one paid-for copy that I can't register and use.

Moral: don't get the download version if you have an 'interesting' internet connection.

The proxy server is a good security arrangement.
The security settings in your browser may be causing this.

You don't need to have VS open and running VS to register the program.
The registering is only opening your favortie browser(:>)

Get the serial number and register online from somewhere's outside of
the school at the ulead website. Follow the links.

Hope this helps,

I tried the correct settings, plus various wrong ones.

There are, I suppose, two different kinds of registration. What you're talking about will update Ulead's database OK, but it doesn't help use the downloaded version after the trial period has finished.

You can't do this with your favourite browser. For the download version of VS to register, it opens IE (not my normal Opera) to get to some pages connected with Ulead's commercial download partner. And that doesn't work through the SOCKS proxy. I have done it at home OK for my home copy, but that's not transferrable. [/b]

When your running the downloaded version at school.
On the editing screen (normal screen) click on the "?" on the top right of the screen.
In the drop-down box choose "About ulead VideoStudio".
Write down the serial number.

When you get home goto:
http://www.ulead.com.tw/ulead/member/me ... feature=PR

In that registration screen "Create a New Account" for the school.
You need to pick an email address for the school. Don't use your home email because it's already registered. Pick one for the school.

Then follow the links to register the product.

To view an accounts registered products
"Sign In'
Click on the top left of the screen "Registration" -> "My Account" -> "View My Registered Products"

Hope this helps,
If it doesn't call ulead tech support or email them.
I also use Opera/FireFox/Mozilla & Netscape. I just registered MSP 7 using Opera.

Thanks again for your help, maddrummer3301.
But for the benefit of others, you're still talking about a different problem. Maybe a better term for my problem is with software activation, though VS9 calls it registration as well.

The problem is that after the trial period expires on the download version of the purchased software, the VS9 program will refuse to start. It has a first screen which is related to payment, and you can chose to activate the product there using registration codes given by email that accompanies the order, but that takes you to an IE screen, which then gives the problems as I've listed before.

OK,

As far I know the trial version doesn't get activated.
You have to un-install it.
If you want to buy the program purchase it online or locally and
install it.
Whatever the case make sure to purchase the retail boxed version.
The download is very large.
I guess the link your having trouble with is the Element 5 store.

Hope this helps,
