No H.265 picture anymore after the last VS 2020 update

Hi there!
I just noticed my H.265 videos of DJI Mavic 2 pro cannot be displayed any more after the last update of VS 2020 two weeks ago (23.2.0.587, 64bit-ultimate). It's simply black!
Does anyone have the same uissue and have a solution?

I have only one small sample of H.265 taken on a Mavic, and it shows and plays normally on my 23.2.0.587. Its frame rate is 24 fps and bitrate is 99981 kbps, so the Properties of your video might be different. Do you think you could make a small sample of your video available so we could check it at our end? You could upload it to a service like Dropbox...

Well, if you don't have the MS HEVC Extension that indeed would be the reason. When you look it up on Google make sure you look for the free version, though I think even if you pay it is only US$1.50 or something like that.

But your video shows and plays correctly on my computer (which does have the HEVC Extension)...

I have no problem playing that H. 265 video unsder Windows 10. Only within Corel Videostudio 2020 it cannot be played back. It's simply black

I'm just trying to install MS HEVC Extension anyway, but no success, jet.

Very strange since it inserts, shows and plays perfectly well here in VS 2020 version 23.2.0.587...

I have downloaded the HEVC sample and like Ken I do not have a problem in playing the file
I do have the free HEVC extension installed
I also had to apply Smart Proxy for a smoother playback

There was a delay of approx. 1 second at the beginning before the clip showed any movement

No Audio stream as such I could not auto set the project properties, the data rate was 99900kbps, but unable to set that high rate.

My vs2020 play that clip fine

(X9 wont, but VMS16P and VP17 will )
Even the very basic free video studio 3

And I do not have that extension as far as I know.
What I'm doing wrong?

The sample plays ok using 2018 and 2020
All other versions I have installed X9, X10, 2019 struggle to play the file, all are using Smart Proxy.

I think the problem is missing of MS HEVC Extension installation under windows 10 on my PC. For some reason I was not able to install it from my MS account.
I'll try it later since I'll be on holiday next week.

I've tried the installation via this link at least 10 times. MS said they are trying to install the code (in the background), but nothing happened in the end.
I also tried to download the corresponding appx file, but I haven't managed to install it this way as a workarround.

From memory the extension installs in about 1 second and nothing appears on screen, and it sits hidden away somewhere. Do you get an error msg saying it hasn't installed?

I have my own tale to tell about H.265. Last year I bought a new Intel NUC with Core-i7. Intel said it could play H.265 when I installed the extension. After that H.265 would play on VLC Player and could be edited in Cyberlink Power Director and other NLE's I own... except for Video Studio which, like you, always showed just black. Corel tried telling me my computer was not up to the job despite my having proof that other programs had no difficulty with it. I even went through a couple of remote sessions with Corel, with no success. One of those remote sessions appeared to screw up something else in Win 10. So in the end I had to reinstall Win 10 from the ground up. I installed the MS extension as part of that. And when I reinstalled VS, surprise surprise -- it had no more difficulty with H.265. That was a few months ago, and I am not suggesting you need to reinstall Win 10, which is a somewhat drastic remedy. But I never otherwise found out why H.265 would not earlier play in just VS...
