Please excuse the non-technical terms about to come here - hopefully it still makes sense.
So, I've used VS X10 a couple of times before to make short films no problem. However, after working on a new project yesterday and coming back to it this morning something very strange had happened. I'll explain my process:
Import an existing clip into VS.
Split the audio into a separate track.
Chop the video into little bits.
Copy some of the bits, move them around, extend duration, reverse some, zoom others. No FX or transitions used.
Place all these bits onto 2 overlay tracks. The default video track was not used at all.
Ripple editing was off as it wasn't needed.
When I finished last night everything was perfectly positioned apart from two or three to come back to today.
This morning all the bits were in the right position and the right duration. However, they were all from different parts of the original clip I imported at first. It was as if I had cut out some holes in a piece of paper and stuck them over a painting, then someone came along and shifted the paper so my holes were now on different parts of the painting.
Any advice on what happened and how to fix it would be great. Thanks!

Your profile doesn't list what version of VS you're using so you should update your profile as there are many different versions of VS.

If your using Smart Proxy, turn it off and see if that resolves the issue.Aliquot wrote:It was as if I had cut out some holes in a piece of paper and stuck them over a painting, then someone came along and shifted the paper so my holes were now on different parts of the painting.

Re: Unusual clip behaviour
Welcome to the forum, Aliquot.
It isn't clear to me whether, after your initial work, you saved the project and closed VS... I assume you did and what you describe happened when you reopened X10 and then reopened the project. Or did you leave everything running overnight?
It's also not completely clear whether what you see now are the pieces you originally removed from the project, rather than the pieces you wanted to remain. Clarification would be appreciated...
By the way, what were the Properties of the original clip? It might not be relevant at the moment, though it is usually good just to know exactly what we are dealing with e.g. tletter's reference to SmartProxy usually relates to 4K video these days, and you don't tell us anything about your computer specs...
