Problem importing video file into 2020
Hi
I'm having a head scratching moment with Studio 2020, I'm trying to import a video file (mts) into the program the file in question plays fine in media players such as VLC, when it imports into the program, the program thinks its a Photo and not a video file!
Anyone having any similar problems?

Hi RobCharles
Does this happen with every MTS file or just the one file?
Are you successful in importing the file or does that fail, if it does import does it look and react like an image or a video?
How large is the actual file in Mb, are you able to share that file with us.

Hi Trevor,
It's the one file it seems the file is "corrupt" but it plays perfectly as you would expect, I've re-encoed the file to mp4 and it's went into the program file.
Sounds to me like the SD card could be on the way out?

Hi can anyone recommend a good free-ware video converter program?
I have Any Video Converter - but it doesn't keep the file size when converting into mp4?
Thanks
Rob

Is that the only program?
I'm looking to recode to MTS keeping the file size the same?

Of course not.RobCharles1981 wrote:Is that the only program?
Don't think any converter can keep "the file size the same". The important thing is that the clip's length and resolution remain intact not it's file size.RobCharles1981 wrote:I'm looking to recode to MTS keeping the file size the same?

Re: Problem importing video file into 2020
I agree with tletter. I'm also not sure any converter will produce a video with the .mts extension - not that that would make much difference anyway.
Another free converter is Freemake https://www.freemake.com/free_video_converter/ Just be careful when installing to read each page of the installation process as it may offer to install another product at the same time, something you may not want. Other than that, though, Freemake works well, although I tend also to use Handbrake these days.

Re: Problem importing video file into 2020
Here is a possible solution that has worked for me.
My JVC Camcorder records in .MTS file format and I had some trouble with this native format as well.
.
The solution I found that helped me was a FREE program called
--- --- --- ---> FREE MKV to MP4 Converter <--- --- --- ---
https://www.pazera-software.com/product ... converter/
.
Now, what to do....
Original . . . . "File.MTS" ---> Rename to ---> "File.MKV"
Process . . . . "File.MKV" --> through program to ---> "File.MP4"
.
You will now have a new file that might work for you, ... and you now have a different way to do it.
It is not EXACTLY the same size, but it is close, maybe 1% larger?---it was for my test file just now.
.
Good Luck!
Keep us advised.
John
P.S. I think I got this tip from this list, thanks to the other list member that offered it to me.

Re: Problem importing video file into 2020
Hi Rob
If you wish to use Motion Transport then the following will render to m2ts, that’s the same as MTS
Video to Video
https://www.videotovideo.org/
You may have some differences in the frame type, your 1920 x 1080 recordings will probably use interlacing “Upper Field First”
Most video converters I have used only produce Progressive although the results look good.
I have just checked Xmedia Recode and that does support interlacing, quick test retained the original settings as m2ts, a bit of a learning curve to use but seems the better option.

Hi Rob
I followed up to test some video converters and unfortunately I had problems with every converter when selecting Motion Transport Stream
All converters I tested caused the file to stop Video Studio responding, had to use Task Manager to End Task.
I was able to convert to MP4 with no apparent issues but MTS, m2ts etc caused a lot of problems, obviously tried many different settings.
I will keep digging but so far non seem capable of MTS.
Oh, the new video file tests froze 2020 and 2019
Don’t know if this is my system, so whether others can test converting to Motion Transport could confirm that.
By the way your problem file, you only have one that’s causing issues, how long is it and do you need audio sync.
There is a method to rip the frames to individual images, then reconstruct as a video, but looses audio.
Otherwise convert to another format
