PaintShop Pro 2020 Crash
I'm having a problem -
I just downloaded PaintShop Pro last week, and this weekend have been poking around to see if it's a keeper or not.
I installed both 32 and 64 bit versions (the recommendation) and this happens in both versions.
If I use something that's automatic, like Instant Photo Fix or Instant Noise Removal, everything works as expected. In fact, both loading the program and the effects I've applied this way work well.
If I try to use something like Smart Photo Fix, or anything where there are settings to tweak, the split screen window comes up full screen and in what looks like the "photo" interface (I use full) but there's an immediate error chime that rolls about three or four "dings" and the buttons don't populate nor does the "preview" window load. The whole program becomes non-responsive, and within about thirty seconds to a minute, it closes on its own with no error messages or anything. The program is updated fully and the version shows as the latest version.
I have only tried this on my machine at home, so I'll install it on my work machine and see if I have similar issues. I honestly can't answer whether installing any of Corel's "extras" might have caused this because though I used the program before installing any of them (the recently on sale Photo Video Ultimate Packs) with Painter Essentials 6, ParticleShop, Photo Mirage and some creative pack) I never tried any advanced editing.
Any thoughts? Anyone else run into this? The scratch disk I'm using only has about 5 Gig available, and I don't have any excessive demands undo wise.
Thanks in advance. I really like this program, other than this small, "can't use a lot of it" part, but everything it does on its own works much better than it did, and quicker too, than my old (don't laugh) X5 version.
Cheers,
Pix Smith

Re: PaintShop Pro 2020 Crash
Try to launch PSP while holding down the Shift Key until it asks you to accept the reset. This will not delete any of your documents or files. Only your workspace will be set to default (save it before to do the reset).
This trick cures many problems (but not all).

Re: PaintShop Pro 2020 Crash
I will give that a try. And again, tomorrow at the office I'll try it on a different machine. It's possible I have some arcane conflict going on with my home machine as well.
Thank you for that advice though - I completely forgot about that option.
Cheers,

Re: PaintShop Pro 2020 Crash
Pix Smith, I have just started having *exactly* the same problem as you describe. Seems to have started around the same time as yours did too. Do you have a solution yet? It's driving me crazy. I normally use PSP many times daily. I have uninstalled and reinstalled three times, to no effect. I am on a dev build of Windows and wondered if it would be worth reinstalling. But that's such a hassle. Please let me know if there is a solution...

PaintShop Pro
Same problem here
I tried reset psp, repair psp, windows safe mode, 32 & 64 bit psp.
I've been having a problem with anything where there are settings to tweak - the dialog boxes for parameters are empty or show weird stuff. I used to get around it by resizing the dialog window but that quit working.
Now when I try "digital noise removal" I get a popup "Encountered an improper argument", I click OK, then I get another popup with blank boxes and then psp closes.
Windows app log shows Faulting module name: CoreControls.dll version: 22.0.0.1
I am running Windows 10 Insider Preview 20161.1000 (rs_prerelease)

Re: PaintShop Pro 2020 Crash
PixSmith hasn't reported whether it worked for him, but have you tried Jean-Luc's suggestion of resetting the program by holding down the Shift key when you click on the desktop icon to open PSP. You will be asked if you want to reset. Make sure you save any customised workspace or it will be lost in the reset.

Re: PaintShop Pro 2020 Crash
Having the same crash problem here. Just started recently ...
Steps to reproduce:
1) Open Smart Photo Fix on any image and it crashes. You hear 4 or so rings and then it shows a dialog with no text and exits
Resetting the workspace with the Shift key does not fix this.
2) I also tried "digital noise removal" and it also crashed - showed a dialog (no text visible) and then exited
Running the windows insider preview builds so I suspect something there changed.
OS Name Microsoft Windows 10 Pro Insider Preview

Re: PaintShop Pro 2020 Crash
The errors are fairly generic, access violation and user callback exception. Both pointing to CoreControls.dll this suggests either PSP's library is doing something your computer doesn't like or had been slightly corrupted and it's producing unexpected errors.

Well, Windows updates all the time (4 updates in the windows insider preview since June 18 on my machine ) and the features used to work but I can't really prove it was a Windows update that broke me or some other change.Jean-Luc wrote:Recently... do you mean 'after a Windows update'?jfisherman wrote:Having the same crash problem here. Re: PaintShop Pro 2020 Crash
Hello All
I am running Windows build 20170 and that is when the crashing of PSP Pro started. It's when I select 'Smart Photo Fix' then the window comes up but looks
corrupted, after five seconds the program crashes. I tried PSP 32 bit and 64 bit both do the same (I'm using PSP Ult 2019) + I tried PSP 2018 (Both 32/64 bit) - exactly
the same.
Hopefully the next Windows 10 Dev build will solve this issue!

Re: PaintShop Pro 2020 Crash
Hi Steve
And welcome to the forums
I have just tried PSP 2019 Smart Photo Fix with no apparent issues.
My view of Photo Fix is a little different to your view, I suspect using a different size monitor
My monitor is 1680 x 1050
Attached image are the details I see, much more than in your view?
From the Menu - User Interface all my settings are as-installed, seems all are set as small.
So a little more gong on here than the crash?
What is the size of your monitor?
The more experienced PSP guys may be able to help here…..
Have you tried resetting the program, launching the program by holding Shift whilst selecting the PSP desktop icon

Re: PaintShop Pro 2020 Crash
Hello & thanks for the reply
The monitor is 1920x1200. Yes I tried resetting PSP using the Shift key as it started. As stated the program has always worked fine. but from the new Windows 10 Dev Build
12070, the program crashes as described.
