Missing PSP when on Linux/Mac?

Post by migf1 »

I am not sure if this should be in this forum (if not, maybe an admin can move it).

If you occasionally use Linux (or macOS) you probably use Gimp as a PSP alternative, and if so, then chances are you miss PSP badly  I just finished binding more that 70 Gimp keyboard shortcuts to their PaintShop Pro 2020 equivalents (or reasonably close ones, anyway). Hopefully they will help you feel a little more at home, until you get back to the real thing in Windows.

They come with a detailed Readme.txt file, and on-line reference.

I keep them on my DeviantArt, but I think DA allows d/l only to its members. Maybe it lets everyone to D/L (I'm not sure) and creating an account is free, but to save people any hassle I have also put the bindings on gnome-look (which sometimes gets offline, so I have also put them temporarily on MediaFire too).

Have fun :)

Thank you very much FlutteringBy!

I just added 1 more D/L link to the 1st post (on gnome-look). I've also corrected a few typos in the Readme.txt file, and I removed a couple of rows from the online google Sheet (they were irrelevant).

Btw guys, if your favorite PSP shortcut is missing from my list, first have a look at the "KEY BINDINGS (INCOMPATIBILITIES RATIONALE)" section, in the Readme.txt file. Then feel free to further customize any bindings to your liking.

Yeah, I know really!

For me it was Gimp's layer boundary-size that took me a while to realize that I had to manually handle it. Most, if not all, other programs adjust it automatically.

PS. In my opinion, Gimp has still a long way to go, in many areas.

It sure is :)

Tbh, I can't really believe that after being like 15 years in development, it is still impossible to select multiple layers in the layers palette, or that 3rd-party plugins are needed in order to Ungroup layers.

On the other hand, it does offer lots of awesome features we don't have in PSP. Like for example the Cage Transform (which is the equivalent of Ps Puppet Wrap). I am so jealous of that one (I am waiting years for Corel to add something similar to PSP). Also, look at ALL those layer blend modes in the latest release!

Anyway, I am still hoping that at some point Corel will finally decide to get back to serious and innovative development of PSP (it is still my preferred program for casual work).
