Runtime Error R6025

Post by Starmountain »

Hi all,

I run PSP 2020 on two computers and both have a hard time working with a 10Mb grey-scale image (5.3mpx) that has one base layer and one grouped layer consisting of a copy of the base layer and a mask. The file is imported from a 16bit TIFF and stored as a .pspimage.

In below description I have to guess the English terms as I am using the Dutch GUI.

In the image I make a round selection based on a circular feature in the image. This circular selection has a diameter of approximately 1300px. I apply an inside feather [like ctrl-H, but then only inside] of 3px to it and use that selection to create the mask (inside white, reverse selection, outside black).

When done and I scroll through the layers palette [F8] PSP crashes with:
Runtime Error! Program: C:\Program Files\Core... R6025 - Pure virtual function call.
When I create the same selection and mask without using the feather-option all goes well.

Both machines are Dells and brand new, both run on Windows 10 64bit. One is a workstation, the other my laptop. Both have 500Gb hard drive, 16GB RAM. I tried solving this issue with:

- reinstalling C++;
- reinstalling PSP;
- updating video drivers (NVIDIA and Intel UHD Graphics 630).

I searched this forum, but did not find a proper solution, so any assistance would be greatly appreciated. As described above the issue is related to the feather function [CTRL-H] and can be reproduced on two machines.

thanks,
Nicolàs

Welcome and sorry to hear that you are having crashes with a standard PSP process.
I have tried editing a similar image as you describe but have not had the problem you mention. I used a bit greyscale tif of 11.5 mpx and followed your instructions, including feathering - giving a layer set as below

Pressing F8 to scroll through the palettes did not cause a crash.
I tried it both feathering when creating the selection and adding feathering to a selection (Selections|Modify|Inside/Outside Feather...).

You will probably have to contact Corel Support: my experiences with them are not positive, I am afraid.

Hello Nicolas,

I have a little trouble following your post, mostly due to the terminology I guess.

For one, there is no "inside" option for Feathering in my copy of PSP2020. Then, I am not sure how you use the "mask" term. Masks are indeed black and white layers, but we do not really create them manually. We rather use the Layers -> New Mask Layer sub-menu. Regardless of the option we choose in there, PSP will automatically create a layer-group consisting of a B&W mask layer (reflecting the current selection) and the layer which was active when we issued the New Mask command. Lastly, F8 does not scroll through layers or layer palettes, it rather toggles the visibility of the Layers palette.

Could you please try to explain the issue again? Maybe also sharing with us the image the causes the problem?

Hi Andy and migf1,

today I was contacted by Parthiban Elangovan of Corel. He too was not able to replicate the issue, so I thought it would be good to create a screen-shot-video of the steps I did yesterday.
Strangely enough I cannot replicate it today any more, while yesterday I reproduced it at least ten times, spent hours on it. Today I used the same file as yesterday and the same workflow, even better: I expanded the number of similar masks to three. Both the workstation and laptop work fine now.

Although I am glad it does not occur today, at the same time I do not understand why it did yesterday, despite all the reboots and re-installations of C++ and PSP.

Let us call it the ghost in the machine... Here are the original and the result that I tried to achieve (@50% of the original):

Thanks for your time!

best wishes,
Nicolàs

PS: In the meanwhile I found the language settings through File->Preferences->Switch Language

Selections>Modify>Inside/Outside feather gives you the option to do inside feather only (or outside only or both).

@startmountain: Oh, yesterday it was one of these days then (when we go to bed with a big WTF balloon hanging over our heads LOL). Glad it was just a temp thing. Great pic btw :)

@JoeB: I'd never noticed that command, thank you (I rarely use feathering). I was looking in the Ctrl+H dialog, as mentioned by startmountain and there wasn't any inside/outside option, hence my quetsions.
