Back up disc available ?

last year when I bought VS 2019 on corel website I had the option buy the download and if I wanted to buy a back up disc I could. which I did.
i just checked corel ,the option to buy a disc and download at the same time is no longer available it seems. (for 2020 version)
I know you buy the disc on amazon but I wanted the 2020 version today.
anyone know if these options are available ?

DVDs are a bit passé these days. People use USB stick drives instead. Personally, I store all my downloaded installation files for Corel and other programs on an external USB 3.0 drive. These drives are cheap these days and keep my setup files safe and away from the computer in case something goes wrong there. If you want to be extra safe, save the setup files again on a second external drive...

Thank you for that Ken. I do already keep all my Corel progs on a separate drive, although I do keep my 570 home videos on DVD and also send copies on DVD to friends and acquaintances . I just wanted to see what kind of answer I would get back. I do enjoy the daily banter that goes on here,...

An SD card is another alternative: simply use windows file explorer to copy the folders from your download location to the card, which functions as an added drive when plugged in to the PC.

But if you are a disk fanatic, or simply using an older machine that your are familiar with, then use file explorer (option to burn a disc is available on a button there) to burn a set of disks containing the download files. Break the amount of data into sets that fit the size of disk you are using. There are also free disk burner programs available.

Storage capacity limits aside, disks have 2 advantages over SD cards or usb sticks:
- there are permanent; accidents don't 'happen' once they are burnt with data; and
- they are cheap - usb is cheap now, but disks are even cheaper.

I think, Davidk, that you are sooo correct. I really must be a disc fanatic. Made me think.. I had a little check. I rummaged around and found 42 assorted media cards ranging from Smart Media cards for the early Olympus digital camera, to the latest micro cards for my GoPro knock off. In fact I no longer have the capability to read those Smart Media cards any more.
I have used Ulead ever since it was given away free on a disc from one of those early magazines. I think that it was PC User or something like that. Then when Corel took Ulead, I gradually updated, as you do, up until version 2019, which I use now. Just waiting for the price of 2020 to drop to £20 and I will upgrade again.
The real purpose of this missive is to enquire just how much of the programme is included on the discs when we do happen to buy them. A lot of the programme is down loaded from the internet when we first get the current version and you have to be connected to the net to do the install. Once that is done the complete programme is then on our computers. Then we can operate the programme while off of the internet.
So. Do we only have to record the installer part of the programme to disc to be able to save a future new install, as most of the prog comes down the phone line on installation. Then when a re-install of the programme is needed just the install.exe part, which is on the self written disc is all that is needed. Plus, of course the key that we got initially. This is just a query.
By the way I don’t seem to have all those problems that others get with crashes and blank screens. I do get the odd blank screen, but I am convinced that it is something that I have done. Files in the wrong place, rushing the prog, lots of other things.

The "Cloud" is another option. I have most of my programs stored there in addition to USB and Discs.

Divide up the files between 2 x 4.7GB DVD-R and then combine them back together on a drive when you want to install the program.

What's on the Corel disk, you ask?? Not all of it, I say //based on experience with the 2018 ultimate disk//

The disk will have the installer, main program, standard content and probably bonus features. Run the installer, and you will come to a menu of program parts that includes these, and an extra one: standard content 2 with a note "download from internet" beside it. What that means is (because it won't fit on the disk) that the installer will find and download standard content 2 from the internet as part of the installation process, not that you have to do it manually. Which is badly misleading: at the time a student of mine got into trouble because she thought she had to do just that. Suggestions to change that note to a more informative "installer will download from the internet" have not been heeded AFAIK.

By default the program options are ticked. But you can do them separately, starting with the main program only; install it, check it out, then run the installer again and do the others.
At the end of this setup process there are buttons to download and install, or download only. If you are installing from disk - choose the download and install button: once again, misleading - the installer will locate the local programs (on disk) before it goes looking on the internet. With one exception: if the check for updates identifies a service pack has been published, regardless of the status of the disk, the installer will download the latest version and save it: so make sure that you've correctly stated where you want the download save location to be.
