Something really good and frequently updated: https://www.animationsoftware7.com/list ... =downloads
It has good tutorials and is very easy to use. It has particles and much, much more.

Yes, I received few years ago free DP animation for review, used it a bit. I don't think I can migrate it to this W10 system

Hi
Im not as technacily savy as you guys but I was wondering if it would be possible to convert ProRes 4444 files to MOV files in Handbrake and still retain the alpha channel?

Indeed a very particular particles issue.
As handbrake is free, why you didn't try and check?

Hi alanball,
I don't think that any of Handbrake's export modes support alpha so that won't work. You can use the free "Hitfilm Express" program to import the ProRes file as well as your own background video which you can track onto. You can then export the rendered file and import it into Videostudio.

Thanks asik1 I would but my computer is down at the moment, last Win10 update locked it up.
Thanks Vbanny sounds as though that is worth looking into and comments on the web sound positve. Not too sure if it will work on the free version of Hitfilm but will give it a go when my computer is up and running.

Wow thanks Vbanny, that's great to know, thanks very much for going to the trouble of testing it. Was there any special settings required for the output MOV?

alan -- I assume the Win 10 update you refer to is the major upgrade to build 2004. If so, I am currently avoiding putting that on my main computer even though it says it is ready to receive it. That computer has 32 GB of Optane memory and apparently the 2004 upgrade wrecks it (or at least ignores it and deprives the computer of its use). MS have refused to even acknowledge this so far, so I will wait till I see something on line that says that is now being taken care of. I have, however, uploaded 2004 on several other computers, though I no longer use them for editing.

I also happen to have the full version of Hitfilm, so should try that out with Particle Illusion footage... Will report back when I do...

Hi Alan,
I exported a ProRes 4444 file (full alpha) from Particle Illusion and imported it into Hitfilm along with my source footage. I layered the ProRes footage over my scene and used the tracker to keep the particles locked to it so they moved realistically. I then rendered the file for use in Videostudio.

Best regards,
Dan

Hi Ken
yes that's the Win issue that I had with a 32 gig SSD drive. Just wish I had seen some warning. Just hoping my local computer guy can fix it.

Thanks Dan that's really useful info, many thanks.
