Am trying to cut out image to a shape using the PSP Tutorial (https://learn.corel.com/tutorials/how-t ... -and-text/)
When I follow steps in the tutorial I get a transparent layer. For this purpose I began w/the PSP Banner and a Rounded Rectangle Preset Shape. It did the Rounded Rectangle on the Banner but final result waa Transparent. See attached.
Thanks so much,
Sally

Re: Cut out shapes PSP 20
Hi Sally,
I can't really make much from that screenshot, but I can see that the Vector shape you added shows completely transparent in the Layers palette. Was the shape filled with a color when you added it, or it was just the stoke? If it was not filled with color, then that's probably the issue.
When using the Preset Shapes tool, PSP displays its Options horizontal toolbar at the top. Among other things on there, there is a Retain Style checkbox. If you have it checked, then every shape you add comes in filled and with a stroke (usually, white and black, respectively). If the Retain Style is unchecked, then it uses your currently active Foreground and Background colors, in the materials palette (top right).
But even if you add the shape without a fill, you can add it before using the Cutter. In the Layers palette, expand the Vector layer from that little white arrow in front of its name. Once the actual shape gets revealed in the Layers palette, right-click on it and from the menu that pops up choose Properties. A dialog will open, and in there you can change/add/remove stroke and fill to your vector shape.

Thank you.
You are exacly right. The Preset Shape Vector layer is transparent. Nothing I have done so far will show the image in the Vector layer of the layers palette (attached)
Much thanks so far. I will continue working on it tonight.
Sally

Re: Cut out shapes PSP 20
The written tutorial is a bit confusing in that the first image it shows the Retain Style checkbox unticked and in following images it is ticked.
If you have Retain Style ticked when you draw the shape you will see nothing except the image and a bounding box overlay. When you click the Cutter Preview the whole image becomes dark and finally clicking the Shape Cutter gives a transparent shape with a fine outline which is what you are getting.
1. Make sure the Retain Style checkbox is unticked.
2. When you draw the shape it will be filled with the Background and Fill color and obscure the image it overlies. (Make sure that you have a solid color chosen for the Background and fill color and not Transparency.)
3. Click the Cutter Preview and the solid color becomes partly transparent so you can see if you need to move the shape.
4. Click the Shape Cutter will then give you what you are after.

Re: Cut out shapes PSP 20
You are welcome Sally.
Yeap, as we mentioned above, that Retain Style checkbox is probably the issue. But even so, you can go to the Properties dialog of the unfilled shape and fill it with a color, BEFORE you use the cutter.
PS. Paul in My PSP2020, having Retain Style ticked produces the shape with black stroke and white fill. And the cutter works too.

Got it!! As all advised was getting the Color added to the Vector layer. Properties > fill color box checked worked.
Thanks sooooo much,
Ron
