Filename in title adds colon and suffix?

No doubt embarrassingly obvious but... why am I getting names like this in the PSP 8 titlebar? A file MotorControl.jpg as displayed in File Explorer and other image editors (including PSP 2018) is shown with a suffix ':2'. I assume somehow connected with layers - but there is only one.

I really have no idea what that is. I don't think latest versions show that colon (they show the current zoom percentage, along with the name of the active layer).

Thanks @migf1. Just opened a new image and that too shows the same odd suffix.



After discovering the issue yesterday I checked Task Mgr and again found two instances of PSP 8. I ended the 'smaller' one. The issue remained. I haven't yet rebooted but will shortly.

The only other factor is that this file started as a WMF. I'll upload it here in case anyone wants to play with it.

If I load that file directly into PSP8 this is what I get and it does not look like what terrypin gets.

Instead of rebooting I instead tried first using TM to close the current single instance PSP 8. After reloading, the suffix on all files has vanished. I conclude that it was nothing to do with layers and/or the WMF but is another consequence of my much discussed but AFAIK never satisfactorily resolved 'multiple instances' issue.

As for the WMF file, I don't understand them!

The original I uploaded was an export from an ancient program called CircuitMaker 2000 Pro. In PSP 8, although only 22 x 22 pixel size, it appears to contain maybe 200 or so vector layers.




Opened in IrfanView it comes up in readable form but with a pixel size of 1702 x 1064 instead of square. WMF is not one of IrfanView's types in the Save As dialog, so I used EMF. When opened in PSP 8 (or PSP 2018) that comes up as 1700 x 1063 and displays just a white rectangle.



For my purposes I used IrfanView to edit and resize it to the original square aspect ratio, 1243 x 1243, resized to show here:

I had a dim, distant memory of WMF (Windows Meta File?) and Powerpoint.
I copied (drag & dropped) the file into my old Powerpoint 2007 and converted the image to a Microsoft Drawing Object. It can then be ungrouped to the individual elements. E.G. a transisor is made up of a circle & lines.
A similar process can be done in LibraOffice Draw (free software and quite good). The step is to 'Break' the image (a context-level right-click command). Again the elements are available for editing.

EDIT - In PSP 2020 it opens (after asking for the image size). There is a single Vector layer with transparency but it is incomplete - e.g. missing circles round transistor junction. (I've added a white background to screenshot.)

When one opens a .wmf with PSP7 or PSP8 one is given the option of declaring an image size. Try 2222 x 2222 instead of accepting 22 x 22.
