Although I have the option selected to set properties as first video in VS10 and VS2018, Im no longer asked the question since I have been using WMF and Mpeg video files. The WMF files were from VS screen capture.
Any ideas?

Re: Set properties as first video
Hi Alan
If you go to Settings Project Properties (alt+Enter) and view the options available to manually set then you will notice that WMV is not listed neither is Mov.
The options from Show Messages will not have any effect.
There are many variations of all video files that may not be suitable but on the whole any standard videos will activate the Show Messages to change the properties
You may find that some video without an audio stream will not change the properties as they have to use audio.
Your best option is to check the WMV properties then set Project Properties to use similar MPEG4, or select your desired output settings that you would use in Share
As an aside
If your screen recordings are not standard sizes 1920 x 1080 or 1280 x 720 then you may have issues rendering with a warning about frame size, should your recordings be different sizes then use the overlay tracks, not the top track.

Thanks Trevor, never realised that, always something new to learn with VS.

Hi Trevor,
Second that last remark. But wmv and mov are still valid formats and VS does recognise them. So why would the show messages control not work? And is there a way to get the project properties options to recognise/display them?

Re: Set properties as first video
Unless we can change the coding of the program so Project Properties can be set to use WMV then the Show Messages will not have any effect.
We have never been able to set Project Properties to use Wmv or Quicktime and I do not think anyone has asked the question why.
