VS 2019 Ultimate camera conflict?

Post by Pete Waterman »

Good morning all.

I have just bought a new laptop ( not the fastest or the best) you know the affordable ones HP Pavilion 15-cs3006na Laptop, Intel Core i3 Processor, 8GB RAM, 256GB SSD.

I only got it last week; I installed MS office, Photoshop Elements 14, Face book then VS 2019 ultimate.

This is when the fun started!

I tried to make a video call through Face book had to select the camera and microphone settings and save made the call, tried another call, no camera, a lot of research, every time I got the select camera the default was a Corel camera?

I reselected the HP camera worked once and gone again!

In the end I had to uninstall VS 2019 after that all is well, camera works every time I want to make a video call.

Has anyone else had this problem and what did you do to fix it please?

Really odd.
During the pandemic, I've video conferenced for several hours a week on a remote learning class using zoom, and in between used VS x10 and 2020 without any observable adverse impact on the webcam facility. Joining a zoom meeting, the webcam opened and worked as expected.
And when I have 2019 loaded, and open, capture mode: select the capture from external voice and the webcam comes up, working. Close down VS, wait a few seconds for the background processes to finish, and then open the Youcam software for the webcam (double click the icon on the desktop), and that opens up fine; it's not hung attached to VS.

So, when using the webcam, what have you tried? For example
- using it after boot but before starting VS?
- using it after VS, but when VS has been closed?

Thanks for your reply Davidk,
As I say I bought a new Laptop installed the programs stated, that is when the webcam failed to work correctly.

I had only opened up VS2019 once to verify it was working, after instating programs the Laptop was rebooted several times but web cam failed every time I tried it. IE open up Face book Messenger click on the camera icon to make a call, a page would open up for me to select the camera and mic to use, it was always set to a Corel camera, I selected the HP camera all was ok for that call.

If I made a call 2,20,45, minutes later I had no camera, I would have to reselect it, if after selecting the correct camera I clicked on the check box to remember the setting for next time, I had the same NO camera, it wasn’t until I decided to uninstall VS2019 after that the camera now works fine every time.

As you say very strange.
