I am a current user of Video Studio X9. which seems to work fine on my new Lenovo Yoga 730 (Intel 8th Gen I7, 16 gig Memory, 1 TB SSD, Nvdia Geforce 1050)
I Installed the Trial Version of Video Studio 2020 (Ver 23.1.0.488 64Bit) to evaluate color grading features.
I did a basic color grade on a 30 second video from my camera.
When I tried to render the color grade clip at its native settings the render process froze and I had to use task manager to End Task. Had CUDA enabled, and tried without CUDA.
Tried a different video clip same thing happened. I uninstalled and reinstalled VS 2020, restarted my PC and tried again. Same thing happened, freeze up upon starting render.
I also tried a project that had been easily rendered by my current version VS X9. Wit No further editing or color grading, again, in VS 2020, that project render froze up.
I would really like to upgrade to VS 2020 but I cannot get it to work.

Hi Saverio
First take care when testing your project files, if you open any files from X9 (if the trial will allow that) then you will not be able to open again with X9
Make copies of your projects to use in 2020.
Can you be more specific as to what you are setting that is causing the freeze
If you can use the programs library samples do you have the same problems
I did try a quick test, the program rendered ok, but then I will be using different files, so the library clips will allow us to use the same.

Re: Video Studio 2020 Freeze at Render Start
Trevor
Thanks so much for your response.
Here is some additional findings:
* Using the included Sample_360.mp4 file, I made the following BASIC Color adjustments in the Edit tab:
- Exposure +5; Contrast +5; Shadows +5; Saturation +5
* Then in the Share tab my settings were left at Default Profile (MPRG-4 AVC (1920 x 1080, 30p, 15Mbps)
with Enable Smart Render & Hardware encoder acceleration checked; and Type = CUDA
RESULT:
Rendering started but again Froze the program at 7%
Additional finding:
Using the same Sample file with NO Color edits or any other changes the file fully renders quickly.
After that, if I tried the same color grading edits above the edited file would render correctly.
Conclusion:
This limited test leads me to believe that each unedited clip must first be rendered natively before completing an editing project.
However, I do not have this kind of issue with my current version, Video Studio X9.
Hope this provides more specific info. I sure would like to upgrade to the newer version, but would like to resolve this freezup of the software.
Thanks for any insight you or anyone else can provide,
Saverio

Re: Video Studio 2020 Freeze at Render Start
Hi
Just tried your settings with no problems, render was a little slow but completed without errors
I use AMD which the program does not support so normally I turn off all acceleration, I did turn on for this test
It is not normal that we have to first render the unedited clips before applying the colour correction even though it worked for you.
When we use Smart Render the second render will always be faster as Smart Render remembers the first pass and only applies a full render to new changes.
Not sure how colour correction affects that as any changes will affect the entire clip
So far I cannot replicate fail to render.
The trial has its limitations, so we could blame that but I do not see that this instance should be any different to the full version.

Re: Video Studio 2020 Freeze at Render Start
Thanks for taking the time to respond and try out the settings.
I have been using various versions of Video Studio for years and have not had this problem. I guess I will delay upgrading to 2020 for now.
