As shown, VS2018 has two filters named Sharpen (standard Sharpen and NewBlue Sharpen) which causes confusion. Is it possible to rename a filter in VS2018?
Thanks,

You can rename FX's once you have them as favorites
** I'm sorry, I was on X9, I see it's not working in X11... another step back bug among the others 264 bugs.
***workaround is to save NB as sharpen(1), and VS's as sharpen(2)
***I tried to poke the vft files but I couldn't find that FX in the NB xmls

How is this done in VS2018?asik1 wrote:***workaround is to save NB as sharpen(1), and VS's as sharpen(2)
The 'NewBlueSharpenX7.vft' and 'sharp.vft' files don't appear to contain the text name of the filter that appears in the VS2018 program, i.e. 'sharpen', nor do the 'NBVideoEssentialsLangX5.xml' and 'NBVideoEssentials5Lang.xml' files. Hence it's not clear where the text names of the filters as they appear in the VS2018 program are defined.asik1 wrote:***I tried to poke the vft files but I couldn't find that FX in the NB xmls

save as favorites ***It's not just the vft files, it's the HerEff.dat file.tletter wrote:How is this done in VS2018?asik1 wrote:***workaround is to save NB as sharpen(1), and VS's as sharpen(2)

Re: VS2018 - Rename Filters?
In X9, I did rename the NB filters in 'My Favorites' to avoid confusion (see image), however in VS2018, I can't find an option to rename a filter in 'My Favorites'.asik1 wrote:save as favorites
Unfortunately, HerEff.dat appears to be a non-editable binary file.asik1 wrote:it's the HerEff.dat file

Re: VS2018 - Rename Filters?
You can't rename, but once you save them the number will be added.

Re: VS2018 - Rename Filters?
Surprisingly this doesn't happen if one uses the other "Add to My Favorites" option shown in image above.asik1 wrote:***workaround is to save NB as sharpen(1), and VS's as sharpen(2)

Re: VS2018 - Rename Filters?
Correct, well if it's a bug than it's better be a wholesome bug
In any case it's always better to save NB fx only after unticking the annoying default center keyframe
** I guess it will be a rhetoric q to ask if the bug is in VS2020 also.

Re: VS2018 - Rename Filters?
From what I can tell X10 was the last version to allow us to rename the filter after adding to the Favourites
All versions do number the filter when adding to favourites via the effects tab but no number when adding from the FX library
Any numbered filters being used from the favourites do not show the number in the Effects filter used list

If that's so than it's another practical good reason to dump VS... and move on.lata wrote:From what I can tell X10 was the last version to allow us to rename the filter after adding to the Favourites
