How to I change save as default project folder?

Post by HumblyDriven »

I have been trying to change the default Save as folder, it's not letting me. Does anyone know how to change it? I Contacted Corel, but it was for Save not the Save As. Then also the program keeps crashing if I do too much and too fast. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.

There is no such thing as a default 'Save As' folder - - as with all programmes on your computer - not just VideoStudio when you do a 'Save As' YOU need to select where to save it - as you do with every other software programme - use the navigation controls shown in your second image to browse to whatever folder you want to use - by default - as in every other software programmes the last save as file will be offered first but that is more a function of Windows than Videostudio

It also sounds as if you want to slow down a bit when editing - give your computer time to complete one action before loading it with more

Hi
You cannot do that, probably would be a good idea but which folder would you choose and would you wish to vary that selection to use another folder for different projects.
First when we open an existing project, if we do Save - As then the original folder will be available.

So the problem of using the default folder (My projects) would only occur when starting a new project.

So there may be a work-round,
Create a new folder to hold your project files.
Start a new project and save to that folder, no need to add any clips to the timeline, call it “default project”
Although you would want to set the project properties correctly.

When you wish to start a new project simply open the Default Project, then File Save As to re-name the project
The Default Project will always be available and located in the folder of your choice.

"There is no such thing as a default 'Save As' folder" yes there is, (the default location folder for Save as is the "My projects") this is the only program where I can't select a different location folder of where I want my save as files to be. I want to change the default "My projects" to another location. When I click save as I have another file folder I want to save the projects too. Meaning when I click to save as I don't want it to go to the "My projects" folder. I have another folder location I used called Edits in progress. The only time when I click save as and the "My projects" folder is the default save is when I come out and find the fold I want to save it in. I mean if you need a video of what I am talking about I'll show you.

You can't change the default projects folder. VS will always go to the My Projects folder when you select 'save as'. What you have to do is get into the habit of using the down arrow at the end of the list box the "My Projects" appears in, to navigate to/ locate the drive/folder you want as the default for a project - and note that you can have different default folders for each project. You should only need to do this for a new project.
Once used, VS will remember the last 4 projects opened (at the bottom of the File pane), and you can simply choose one of those for a new edit. Save puts any changes back into the same folder the project is in. Even 'save as' for an existing project - eg, to save your work as a different project version - uses the same folder.

Open Video Studio
Set the project properties
Save As and choose the new Edit folder, give it a “meaningful name”
Close and reopen Video Studio
File – Select the project from the recent projects at the bottom of the list
File Save As to give the project a new name, continue to add clips.
This project and Save As will always target the Edit folder.

Another option
Locate the Edit folder and double click the “meaningful name” project
Video Studio will open, (providing the file associations are set correctly)
File “save as” to give the new project a new name, will use the Edit folder.
The only downside is overriding the Show Messages options, although you should have already set those properties.

The My Project default folder is only used from File – New Project, until we save to another folder.
I do agree that the My Projects save options can be annoying when creating new projects and a choice of location would help

Sorry about that think you.
